looking at the picture it looks like the bottom of a transformer the other part in the pic looks like a transistor on a heat sink imo anyway

Looks like an inverter transformer to me.
Don't have a clue what the aluminum heat sync is all about thou
        Definitely a mosfet attached

          wouldn't touch that unless free.

I'm with Tom. If the owner took the time to "identify" the problem, why aren't they interested in fixing it themselves?

              why?

This should be an FET on aluminium heatsink, right? and maybe burned transformer down?

BTW, this was unsoldered in service, not by owner.

Things don't unsolder themselves while working... if that transformer is bad pretty much guaranteed you won't find a replacement.

Agreed. And the time and effort to get a 26 inch working again unless it's just for personal gain is pointless imho. You won't get much for it.

What about this, owner says that there is only backlight when TV is connected to power outlet(not turned on!), remote controller doesn't do anything, he was in service and been told that mainboard needs replacemet (some chip on motherboard)

I need a TV for my room, so which idea is better?

You seem to have already convinced yourself, so why are you asking? It looks too expensive and tricky to repair IMO.
I -never- take people's word for it when they say "it just needs a chip/capacitor/diode" etc..

Technicians are s***bags here in Croatia, they will charge you like 100 bucks for one RAM module replacement, and they will say that motherboard was faulty and they replaced with new one, right, but almost everyone believe that... that's why I'm here asking for help and opinions, hopefully one day I will help others.

Maybe mainboard isn't the problem, technician is.

seems about the same as the UK, it's not unique to anywhere really.

What if I connect PC PSU to TV? it sounds funny, but it works. I don't mean to sell it so..

You could do that, as long as it doesn't require more than 12V. Some TVs particularly ones above about 19" use 24V inverters.

Only if other components are not damaged due to PSU failure..
