On sat and weeks before that the set kept turning off screen black blue light illuminated did this 35 times+ I wait 20 seconds to turn back on with remote and it turns off again in 7-10 minutes, I turn it on 10 times or more till it stays on. I removed the metal cage around power supply ran the set today took meter readings I get 12.28vdc top left connector stby 5.04vdc, 0.46 psnd, other connector 18.52vdc and on the last connector on the left side 120v connector I get 264v ac. Set did not turn off at all today with metal cage removed. What could be going bad on the board none of the caps are leaking or bulging backlight is set to 30. Could it be the the power supply causing this problem.

I don't know if you have already fixed yours, but...
I was able to fix my old Westy by simply resoldering the 2 square caps that are located right next to each other towards the bottom of the power supply board. Sorry, already reassembled it, so I don't have component numbers.
Upon close inspection, you could see where the solder joints failed.
I can't take credit for the troubleshooting. There's an instructable I saw, and it was exactly my problem too.
Maybe I'll get another 8yrs out of it.

Yep, that is the common failure in this power supply board:

Re: Westinghouse lvm-37w1 turns off more then once
I got this TV, Westinghouse LVM-37w1 and the power board was failing. The capacitor did have a broken solder joint but I fixed that and it still did not work. I manually started the board by grounding the PS-ON and it jumps up to 12v and drops right back down. Every time I reconnect the PS-ON it does the same thing but the PS board will not stay on. So I decided to remove the 2 capacitors where the solder joint is known to break. .22uf and sure enough, one of them was bad. So I did not have the same type of capacitor so I replaced it with a .22uf polyester capacitor and it worked.
Does anyone think this is good or should I order a new one?
Then I turned it on and there was no sound. I was about to take it apart when I realized there was no internal speakers so I got some speakers and now it works perfect.

Polyester capacitors are fine for that application. Good job.Originally posted by PeteS in CARemember that by the time consequences of a short-sighted decision are experienced, the idiot who made the bad decision may have already been promoted or moved on to a better job at another company.
