I'm no expert when it comes to PSUs, and I would defer to Bud. In general, you should test the components yourself to confirm whether they're functioning correctly.

You are right Capkid I should have asked you how to test it.
I am no where near you guys level in electronics

So how do you test it?

        Re: samsung UN22D5010 no power

I learned quite a bit about fixing TVs and testing components from John Preher - still learning:

        http://preher-tech.com/documents/optoisolators

Someone may have an alternate method for testing these. For most components, you can do a search online to pull up info on how to test. If you're unsure about the component's type, just pull up a data sheet.

          Thanks for the info
Only problem is that I dont have an analog meter

In method 2 it instructs you to use both dmm and anolog meter to test

I will test it at work

            Re: samsung UN22D5010 no power

i did a search on PC801S and i just kept getting data sheets that led me to other electronic components i dont need

i went on digikey to see if i can find it
there are numbers on the opto but i dont know which one is the part number
here is what it looks like

            1104
            817B
            X

there is what looks like the letter L before the numbers 1104 but i think it is the logo of the manufacturer

i typed in the numbers in different ways and the closest i found was this on digikey

            http://www.digikey.com/product-searc...rt=LTV-817B-ND

there is no pdf on the lite-on opto only for the fairchild one

the difference between the two is the fairchild opto has a 70V output compared to the 35V output on the lite-on opto

i think the lite-on opto is the original one i need since it is out of stock and everything i have been needed has been out of stock

i attached the pdf of the fairchild opto

budm please let me know if this is an equivalent replacement

            thanks

are these optoisolators common on most different brand of tv's?

i seen this opto on the polaroid psu and the samsung psu

i was thinking of ordering extras thats why i ask

They're reasonably common industry standard devices.

                      Re: samsung UN22D5010 no power

Ok I replaced the opto, all the caps and the really small chip on the back side and still nothing

I am getting the 120 line voltage

I checked voltage at the large cap 171.1v
                      and medium cap .595
I also checked voltages at both connectors

White connector is 0.000 at every pin
Black connector is .6 at every pin

So im guessing there is something else that is defective and not letting the power come thru

                      What else should I test?
Not sure how to test rectifier

                              i forgot to ask
when i installed the opto does it matter the postion i install it?

i figured i would install it the way the original was installed but it may be pinned differently

also i tested the diodes on the board and the ones in green tested good
i got readings one way and not the other

but im not sure about the components in the red boxes
                              are these diodes?
i tested all of these and i was getting readings both ways

                              i will retest again

Yes, the Opto has the LED emitting side and the Photo transistor side.
                                Those are Diodes.

                                    Re: samsung UN22D5010 no power

retested the diodes according to the youtube video

                                    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_3G8t-cV1d8

All 3 diodes in the red box read 0.000 whether i change the leads positive to negative or vice versa

The other 4 diodes in the red box I get 2 readings
If I put the negative probe on the leg of the diode with the silver line I get 0.132
And thats for all 4 diodes

When I put the positive probe on the leg of the diode with silver line I get 1.435 and it continues to go up to 1.644 and slows down but still continues to go up

This is for all 4 diodes

Are all of these diodes defective?

                                      Here are the readings

                                      Starting with positive probe
                                      1-2: OFL (open)
                                      2-3: 0.000
                                      1-3: OFL (open)

                                      Starting with negative probe
                                      1-2: OFL
                                      2-3: 0.486

All 3 diodes in the red box read 0.000 whether i change the leads positive to negative or vice versa

The other 4 diodes in the red box I get 2 readings
If I put the negative probe on the leg of the diode with the silver line I get 0.132
And thats for all 4 diodes

When I put the positive probe on the leg of the diode with silver line I get 1.435 and it continues to go up to 1.644 and slows down but still continues to go up

This is for all 4 diodes

Are all of these diodes defective?
You might have to remove them from the board to get accurate readings.

                                            Hi all!

I'm trying to troubleshoot a Microsoft Surface Pro (5th gen) model 1796 that won't power on. Motherboard model is M1007506-015. My priority is retrieving data, but the SSD is integrated so it looks like if I can't repair it it'll need to go to a data recovery company. I've done a little basic board repair before, but nothing this advanced until now. So please forgive my ignorance in advance. 😅

I found the boardview for this laptop in the forums here, and am able to open it on my PC with FlexBV.

                                            Hi all,

TL;DR - this laptop is driving me nuts with the oddball power-related behaviors. Appreciate any insight you can provide!

I'm experiencing a power issue on an Asus Probook P5440UF-XB74. Although I've worked with electronics and computers for decades, this is my first attempt at getting into motherboard-level component troubleshooting. Any help the community can provide is greatly appreciated!

Hi everyone and thanks in advance for any help I might get here

My Samsung TV is about 4 years old. The exact model number is UE75MU7009TXZG.
About half a year ago I started seeing occasional green frames pop up while watching movies. I mean literally green frames. Not the image turning green, but the entire screen turning green for a split second. This happened maybe once or twice during a 2 hour movie. So no big deal, but clearly something was not quite right.

Since a few days, the TV won't turn...

Samsung TV won't turn on ... keeps cycling the power relay on & off

                                            Hi All,
First time posting here ... my name is Kevin but my friends call me Journey.
I have a Samsung 75" LCD model UN75RU8000FXZA that I don't remember the original fault other than it wouldn't power up anymore.
After it sat for many month's I decide to look at it again. The motherboard seemed to have power regulation issues. After much fussing I decided to just get a new MB.
It came a few days ago and I installed it now just cycles the power relay on and off ... when on the backlights light up and then dim and then relay kicks off and the whole things starts again....

Desoldering gun station modified to use a 18 volt @ 20 amp switching power supply

I have wanting to do this project for quite sometime now and I finally found a switching power supply that will work on this desoldering gun station ZD-915 that the original switching power supply took a shit and just was not worth trying to fix it because this switching power is not quite big enough to handle the heater element and the vacuum pump

One note when I tested the switching power supply and the voltage control board I noticed that this desoldering gun heat up much faster than the original switching power supply which I was really surprised by to the point that I might buy...
