visio vw42lfhdtv10a, picture fades to black

    fresh meat here.

I have this visio I'm taking a look at for an in-law. It works for a about 5-10 minutes, then the screen slowly fades to black and doesn't come back. the sound works fine and I can control volume with the side panel after the screen fades. once it's warm, you can cut the tv off and back on and the screen will come back but for less time than when it's cold.

I took the back off and I don't see any caps bulging. I also haven't seen any pics with the layout that this tv has. maybe this is a newer model of this tv, but i'm not seeing the inverter boards on either side like in other posts I searched.

any idea where to start? do I need to take more panels off to get to the inverter boards on this one? pics attached.

It has power supply/backlights inverter board combo. So you do not see any glowing screen when the pictures go out, you may have to at the screen in dark room.

Shine a flashlight on the screen - do you see a picture?

I did try the flashlight trick as well, in a dark room with just the flashlight and couldn't see anything. seems the backlight still works, just the picture isn't there after the tv warms up.

If you see the glow on the screen, no flash lights, that means the backlights are on. If that is the case, the next thing to check will be the voltage on both ends of the fuse on the T-CON board.

That's right around the 12V you should be seeing on both sides of the fuse. If the output side of the fuse were significantly lower than the input side, you could surmise that the fuse is likely bad. That's not the case in your situation.

sweet. on a side note, I found that the bar on the main board is 155VAC. found out the hard way..

Any other places to look for my issue?

Vizio LCD TVs are notorious for main board issues. I'd try monitoring a few components on the main board to see if you notice a voltage drop when the picture fades. If you don't notice any anomalies, you may have a T-CON issue. I like to use cold spray and a hair dryer to isolate issues, also.
