    Visio VW37L-HDTV20A - no 12/24V on PS

Working on a Visio VW37L-HDTV20A that responds to PWR button in that VISIO symbol goes from orange to white, but no picture/sound. Exposed boards and did the following:

    1. Checked for obvious visible damage
    2. Checked fuses on PS, T-con and main board
    3. Verified 5V line = 5.13V steady
    4. Verified large filter cap has 163 VDC
    5. Disconnected PS and tied ON/OFF to 5V STBY using a 1K ohm resistor.
    6. +12V and +24V do not turn up (0.0 VDC).

Suggestions on where to start? The power supply is model FSP201-3M01. Did a quick search on this forum and did not come up with any links.

Re: Visio VW37L-HDTV20A - no 12/24V on PS

I pulled the two Fairchild FQPF9N50 Mosfets that feed the larger transformer and measured the resistance between G, D and S pins for both. The Drain to Source reading varied between the two (924 & 778 ohms, + on D and - on Source). All other combinations were OL on the 2K scale.

Anyone happen to have a schematic for the PS?

I just fixed a VO42L with the same problem today, had a bad cap on the PSU, 2 bad caps on each inverter, and a blown fuse on the main inverter. Check the fuses and the voltage regulators on the main board too.

OK, since this power supply has PFC Voltage booster, when you force it on using the resistor, does the voltage on that large cap go up to around 380~400V?

Then we will need the P/N of the PFC Controller IC and the SMPS IC, and the one with ??? to get the pinout so we can check and see if it has any voltages on them. This power supply is also used in the VX37.
See if the picture matches your board.
This is not going to be easy repair since I do not have the board in front of me to see.

Looks like L6598D 904J651 for the SMPS and 103AIW EZ737 for the PFC. The picture of your supply is identical to mine.

Never heard of PFC voltage booster with ic controller. What's the purpose of it? I know normal pfc is to prevent noise into the ac line from high switching frequency of smps

With the 1K resistor between 5VDC and ON/OFF, I got the following VDC values on the pins:

                    103AIW EZ737 IC

                    PIN 1: 13.10 VDC
                    0.30
                    2.50
                    0.00
                    0.00
                    1.60
                    0.00
                    PIN 8: 14.4 VDC

                    L6598D 904J651 IC

                    PIN 1 - 16 = 0.00 VDC

I will have to look up all those IC spec sheet first to see how they connected.

@caphair, please see PDF for the PFC booster function.

If I remember correctly I have struggled(with bud) with this same TV for a while and it ended up to be some bad capacitor in the secondary causing the missing 12/24V.

Was it a SMD cap or an electrolytic cap on the topside?

Hi everyone, over the past few months i have taken a deep dive into motherboard diagnostics and I love the challenge. Currently im trying to learn all about the signals that travel around the motherboard, such as frequencies, enable signals High and Low logic states etc. And i have been learning to read and using the Schematics for this board that i requested here on Badcaps forum, from a few months ago, this is such a great place for these.

I’ve been working on a GA-970A-DS3 (rev. 1.0) that does not post. This motherboard has been my main learning board. I would like share...

Macbook A2289 - backlight problems - have checked a lot already - out of ideas
                            by survivalbloke
This is A2289, board 820-01987-A. It came in with the screen not working. We could not see any image on the screen, so we ruled out a backlight issue and instead replaced the panel. The display now comes up, but no backlight.

I didn't see any signs of liquid damage, but there was some odd looking spots around U8400. F8400 has voltage on either side of it, and I have 5v present on R8444 and R8445. I did not have 3.2v at R8442 so I figured U8400 was bad, and I replaced it. After replacement, a brief probe to R8442 showed 3.2v so I assumed I had fixed the device. After reassembly however,...

                            PNP transistor symbol?
                            by SuperAman
I have a question about PNP transistor symbol. Usually the emitter arrow pointing in the direction of the base is at top where the collector would be. I got asked on a test where the arrow is pointing toward the base but was in the spot of the collector. The answer choices was PNP or NPN and forward biased or reverse biased. So is it a PNP that is forward biased or reverse biased? Usually on the schematics for PNP the Emitter is on the top and collector is on the bottom....

Tv powers on and input is able to be selected/used, but the on screen menu closes as soon as it is opened and the there are some periodic "glitches" of the on screen menus in relation to position and size. I have tried all the system resets, but because the menus are not usable, i was unsuccessful. Does this seem like a panel issue? Odd that it only affects the menus and not the main input picture. I have already tried disconnecting front panel buttons assuming one was stuck down causing the input to continually be scanned or similar.

                            Hello there!
I was doing some usual stuff, browsing the internet, listening to music, coding, etc. and my computer froze. It looked like the website couldn't process the request (logging into the account, there was the loading symbol) and it took a few seconds, then my computer totally froze except for the mouse cursor. It lasted for about a minute and I got the BSOD. It happened yesterday and today (just now).

I managed to get the MEMORY.DMP content, but I don't really understand it. Could somebody help me?
