Ok so that means it is a forward biased PNP transistor then?...

Basically the image was like this. Not sure if the emitter was connected to ground, a resistor or what....

PNP transistor symbol?
I have a question about PNP transistor symbol. Usually the emitter arrow pointing in the direction of the base is at top where the collector would be. I got asked on a test where the arrow is pointing toward the base but was in the spot of the collector. The answer choices was PNP or NPN and forward biased or reverse biased. So is it a PNP that is forward biased or reverse biased? Usually on the schematics for PNP the Emitter is on the top and collector is on the bottom....

Which two capacitors? Do you have an image? The filter capacitors can affect image, that might be why you have no image and no readings.on pin 9-10....

Did you install a new port? It is possible the two pins are loose and no longer soldered to the board. If the port looks fine and isn't damaged, I'd try to touch up just those 2 pins with a little solder to see if it fixes it first....Last edited by SuperAman; 01-29-2025, 06:35 PM.

So CL2, which is to the right of the screen connector is open. Aside from that the cap below PRB11 writing is short when I test it for continuity but when I test it in diode mode (red probe on ground) I get a reading of 547 on each side. I believe that is ground pad all those caps and resistors are dumping to. I checked most of the components and I didn't see anything that else that stood out to me.2 PhotosLast edited by SuperAman; 12-18-2024, 10:09 AM.

Resistance to ground of PL302 on both sides is 33K -37K ohms depending which color probe I have on ground. But I see that PLB11 has 12V when connected to battery and AC but discharges to to 0 when no charger is removed. Also the I have not been able to locate PDB1 and PR307,309 I think we have different schematics or boards. Also I have no standby voltages on any of the caps or coil when a battery is connected and no charger connected. The issue is somewhere near PL301 as I have no voltage around those caps and the coil itself. So CL2 is open and I get no voltage on it isn't that the current sense...Last edited by SuperAman; 12-17-2024, 11:28 PM.

HP 15 EPK50 LA-G07EP not starting up on battery?
Hi guys, I got an HP 15 mobo # EPK50 LA-G07EP rev 2.0 not starting up on battery? Recently the battery completely died, wouldn't hold a charge, so I used it for like 3 or 4 days until I ordered a new battery. I ordered a new "OEM" battery and replaced it. It wouldn't start with new battery, figured it was dead and plugged it up and powered it on to see that new battery was like 60% charged. So it seems It won't start on battery if it is not plugged in. It charges fine and lets me use it while not plugged in. If I use it and shut it down and try to power it back on it'll start from power...

Yes shorted wifi chip can prevent it from powering on. Does it power on without chip installed?...

Did you try to read the error codes, if any on the console? Try using UART to read for errors. It could be a bad hdmi encoder chip at best, but it could be a sign of a bad APU / GPU short. Which model PS5 is it 1015A, 1115A, 1215A or Slim?Last edited by SuperAman; 11-27-2024, 09:58 AM.

Yeah, it was the battery, interestingly Sentrix was out of the battery. My guess is I had used a new hot plate to remove the screen and it killed the battery, had it on 80° C....

Surface Pro 7+ battery dead
Hey guys, I had a surface 7+ pro come in for a cracked screen that held a charge. After replacing the screen the battery refuses to charge. I tried to use a dc supply to wake the battery up but it takes no current at all. Tablet is working fine on charger / usb c. The only thing I can think is the heat from the hot plate did something to the battery during the screen removal.Last edited by SuperAman; 11-12-2024, 08:32 AM.

Keyboard replacement not working issues with Win 10/11 (2) different laptops
I have had an issue that I've never come across in all my years of laptop repairs and it has happened twice in the last couple of weeks. The issue occurred on 2 laptops.
1. The first laptop a Lenovo Yoga 7 convertible 14 inch 13th gen i7. This laptop came in working, customer wanted to replace the top keyboard assembly for cosmetic reasons so I replaced the keyobard assembly and put their touchpad in it. After booting into windows it would not work, so I assumed I needed to update it or something. Since they didn't give me the Admin account, as it was a company laptop and the...

Finally got it to work after going thru 3 ports, 2 diodes and knocking off the .1uf cap as well. This has probably been the most challenging repair I've done. With the trace repair and everything that can go wrong on an hdmi port repair going wrong. Learned a lot of things on what to do and no to do for the next time. Thanks you all for the tips. Looks a lot easier on YouTube. 😂

Low melt solder, flux and wick work best together.Yeah I just got a nice solder sucker that I will try out this time. But I did find a sim tray eject (pin) tool worked best though, you can move it up and down the hole while you give it heat....

Thanks I'll try putting another port on. Can you recommend a good soldering iron? The one I have is part of the Quick 8586D+ 2 in 1 station and doesn't get hot enough, even at the max 480 degree Celsius. I don't know if it is the tips or what, tried 2 that came with it. That is why I used the hot air to solder the hdmi port pins. When I tried with the iron the first time, kept bridging the pins, solder wasn't really flowing even with flux....

Ok so after I got the breakout board for my hdmi port I got the following readings.
Pins
1,3,4,6,7,9,10,12, 1.025 voltage drop
2,5,8,11,17 are all ground
13 0.813 voltage drop
14 no connection
15,16 0.801 voltage drop
18 0.583 voltage drop
19 0.827 voltage drop
and continuity reading between pins
1-2 1025
4-5 1024
7-8 1024
11-12 1024
17-18 582 voltage drop
so do I have a bad port? I am also getting a reading on both sides of the small...

Yeah about 3 of the legs were not soldered to pads on the board and were moving. I tried putting on the port again but still no signal. I have ordered a hdmi port breakout board and I should get it in a few days. I will test all 19 pins to determine the problem. I have a list of the correct reading for the pins. Photo is the pad I repaired before I cleaned the pads and put on the port. I put another diode on and I am getting a voltage drop of about 0.6v. These ports are made so you don't fix them easily, I guess, my first PS5 has been a hassle. My first attempt at an hdmi was on a PS4 like 2 months...
