How to test a DLP Ballast

Does anyone know how to check a ballast in a DLP or Inverter in a LCD?

    Is this even possible?

What would I use to test the output? I have High Voltage Probe. The type we used to use to test old Flybacks in CRT

Can anyone help shed some light on this?

Since, currently, the only way we can test is to install in a known working television to verify.

But, I am sure there must be some way to drive the Ballast or Inverter to test it's output and functionality

I am sure this will help a lot of people

    Thanks

    Jon

Moved out of a FAQ thread.

It wasn't even on topic man... Unless you are a veteran member posting a legitimate and often asked for "How-to Guide" thread, Don't post in the FAQ.

Use an LCR meter and measure inductance if you like, but the simplest test should be for continuity - it should be a short at DC.

Re: How to test a DLP Ballast

I dont think I have seen more than 3 posts re DLP Tvs on here. I did find a partial test for Ballast but nothing on testing the output. The input from the power supply should be in the region of 350-400vdc
        Pull the lamp housing
Tie the door switch up to the closed position
        Turn on the TV
All Fans should run, Color wheel should spin listen or shine a flashlight in the lamp side window to verify
Watch at the left back side of the Ballast board for the starter to flash it will cycle flash three times
Pull power cord from back of TV to shut off or it will continue to try the three attempt cycle.

Regarding Inverter transformers other than spare bulbs or
a tester (which is just a bulb) there doesnt seem to be
a measurable output test.We tend to try and measure primary and secondary windings and check the input voltage.
Please upload pictures using attachment function when ask for help on the repair

Most DLP lamps are around 20 to 50V, I thought... Maybe more for more recent ones?

How Can I test PWM DM0365R?
              by chth96
              Hello
I have power adaptor(220V/input, 12V 1.2A/output) which has symptom of fluctuating output DC voltage between 11.5V-12.2V.
So I opened its plastic case and when switched it on, I heard constant tik tik sound from inside its PCB.
I measured DC voltage between negative and positive pin of the largest capacitor(400v 10uf) and it was measured contant 300V.
I also measured ESR value of all capacitors and I noticed that one of capacitor(KMG 16v 470uf), which located in the secondary side, have high ESR value(10 ohm),So I replaced it with same specification NXH capacitor....

inverter H tree driver imbalance in an AC inverter
              by eccerr0r
My cheap crappy 1KW grid tie inverter (GTI) seems to keep blowing IGBTs. When I first got it, it had two failed IGBTs. It used four 60N100's (TO264). I bought 5 from a dubious source (fleabay) and replaced just the two that were dead. The GTI worked for almost two years but recently one of the two that I replaced failed. Since I had three spares, I replaced the dead one. Then a few weeks later it failed again. Weird. Well since I bought dubious China-sourced IGBTs from fleabay it could very well just be a mixture of fakes. I replaced it, but then a day later it failed again! I put in the last...

test active pfc power with lamp test
              by khelane
              Hello
I have a big problem and that is that in some cases when repairing active pfc power supplies I cannot work with a test lamp. I can only get help with 5 volts standby and for starting and starting I have to work without a lamp and this way there is a possibility of parts exploding and other parts being added.
Sometimes with a multimeter test the problems can be reduced to some extent, but I had several cases that had to be tested on and online and recently two varistors exploded. They had terrible resistance because the power supplies were over 800 watts.
              Is there a way...

Mats / mods: detected and repaired GPU fault. Cant seem to test after!
              by chronic519
              Hello.

GPU came in, green lines. Spent lots of time using to get the Mats / mods drive working (found on youtube).
Found issue with a RAM block
              Replaced, green lines gone.
Trying to test again, assuming getting the false positive. Originally had over 1K on a single bank. Now getting tosses low between banks.
Used a good card to test and same results low errors 32+.

I am just search for some form of command to do a full test on the GPU.
I just ran the mats command with my good GPU and passed after roughly 40 min.
              The repaired one, ran...

Yamaha 2064 No sound but Test audio working
              by hemant_2222
              Hello Guys,

              Greetings!

Hope you all are doing well.

I am looking for suggestion on Yamaha 2064. The problem with this receiver is that it has no sound however when the test tones are activated it does outputs from all the speakers. It is working in two channel stereo mode but when you select other sound modes, it doesn't. The last time it had a problem, I had replaced the DAC
              PCM1681DBQR - IC263 and it worked fine.

Other issue with it is one of the STK ICs is getting more heated then the other one but that can be looked at later.
