    I saw Panasonic "IPS" LCD panels this week in an ad... Has this been around for a while, or is this something new (Not IPS in general, but IPS in a 42"+ set)?

    Safe bets are Panasonic, Toshiba (I wasn't sure at the begining, but they do use Japanese caps in their sets) and Sharp (Quattro is overpriced and actually not a good thing). Stay away from LG and Samsung and other Korean stuff.

        A type of LCD panel.

        IPS panels have very good color accuracy, viewing angles and a relatively fast response time (almost no ghosting), but consume a lot of power.

        TN is uncommon in LCD TVs (shitty viewing angles and color), but VERY common on cheap LCD monitors (due to their very fast response time and cheap price).
        There are some noname/cheapo LCD TVs (22" and below) which use TN panels, and it's very easy to tell because the image goes all wonky (inverted colors etc.) if you look at the screen at an angle (from the top or the sides).

        MVA/PVA is common on LCD TVs as their viewing angles and color accuracy are pretty good, but they have relatively slow response times, which makes them rather uncommon in LCD monitors (not suited for fast-paced games ; ghosting).

          Stay away from ~32-40" Toshibas - they are just rebranded Vestel sets! (Absolutely rubbish!)

            Hi I have the same tv AO42ZID with power board FSP312-2MO1, I had coloured stripes flashing on my screen every time I turned the tv on for a few weeks, then eventually it just stayed on standby, flashing. I repaired the blown and swollen caps and replaced the T-5 amp fuse on the power board, there appears to be power goin thru the board. Im getting the correct 24v + 12 v readings on my multimeter from the inverters, but still no power or stanby light at all now ? Any one help I don't fancy giving up on it yet lol

              1) Post clear focused top down pictures of all your boards following my sig file below exactly. We want the picture compositions like so

              2) No power led light suggest something is wrong on the main board. Test your voltage regulators and compare them to their respective datasheets to make sure they are within spec.

                did you replace all the caps? or just the swollen ones? (in the same area)

                and check youve plugged all the cables back in to the right places and not forgot any

                        I wonder--Are the 20-40" Tosh, JVC, Hitachi, Sanyo etc, in the USA just re-badged Crap Vestel sets too?

                        Or do they in the USA escape the hideous crud that is VESTEL!

                          Ive seen a number of sets with burned out plugs/sockets like the O/P....

                          I wouldnt trust a new crimped on connector--preferring to solder the cable direct to the PCB pads on the board itself...
                          --This reduces the possibility of a burn-up happening in the future....

                            i think i got the connector from Ebay, and the caps you can get them anywhere (ebay, rs, farnell, etc) but id stick to getting panasonic ones as these are good ones (in my opinion)

                            these might be them...but check the pitch is right first......or search for similar and see what ya can find
