    Re: Vizio E371VA Power Problem?

Whining and flashing from back lights - is it going to be a ccfl /wiring fault.
I dont know how difficult it is to get at or what you can see without total disassembly
but if it was a monitor that is what I would be looking at next.

That is what I am afraid of, and not sure how well he will be able to take apart the screen without damaging anything.

          Re: Vizio E371VA Power Problem?

Have a last check that all connectors and plugs are firmly seated and if it still doesnt work the next step is to see if the back lights are broken, or the wiring defective. First try switching it on in a room as dark as you can get and see if there is any arcing around the inverter area when you switch it on. Next unplug and wait 5 mins then start to dismantle it down to the panel. Look carefully at the wiring as you go especially around the inverter. look for cracks
splits scorching etc. I dont know what this set is like sometimes you can see some wiring sometimes it is all encased, but you need to keep going till you get to see where the ccfls are mounted. At that point take some more pics and post them.

              Re: Vizio E371VA Power Problem?

I was able to spend a few minutes with the non co-operative TV. I couldn't see any obvious arcing, but I haven't taken anything apart yet. I was able to locate where the high pitched whine is coming from before the unit goes into it's blinking back-light mode. The attached shows an arrow and a circle where I think the sound was coming from. This may mean something, maybe not....thought it was worth a shot.

That is the Class D power amplifiers for the speakers. May be the sound is coming from under the board or inside the panel?

                  Re: Vizio E371VA Power Problem?

Well I unplugged and reseated all of the connectors with the exception of the two small ribbon cables in the center top......those looked a bit fragile. Does the same thing, and I'm thinking the sound is coming from the main board in the area I circled. Go figure. Could anything in that area cause the symptoms of this fine Vizio? There are several caps in that area.

                  Thanks,

                  Mark

                    OK Folks,
I was going to disassemble the set today and I got all of the boards off but the center high board that has the small ribbon cables going go into the housing toward the screen. Just for my sake what is the function of that board, and how do you disconnect those ribbon cables from it?

Thanks for putting up with this beginner,

That is the T-CON board, I do not think that board is the cause of the problem for making squealing sound.

                        Re: Vizio E371VA Power Problem?

Mark, not sure if you are still around but I have the exact same problem with my Visio 37VA and the power supply checks out fine. Where you able to figure out anything else on your issue? My tv went out in 13 months and Vizio will not help me trouble shoot the problem. No caps are split or swollen and all voltage checks out based on earlier posts on this forum. I appreciate anyone that can offer advice on this.

I would imagine even at 13 months you'd have a reasonable claim to lifespan issues. It shouldn't be your responsibility to fix it.

Changed the main board today and the tv is still behaving the same way. The backlight is lit and Mark changed inverter and it didn't help so u went with main board. Any suggestions? Thanks
