Re: Vizio E371VA Power Problem?
OK Folks,
I was going to disassemble the set today and I got all of the boards off but the center high board that has the small ribbon cables going go into the housing toward the screen. Just for my sake what is the function of that board, and how do you disconnect those ribbon cables from it?
Thanks for putting up with this beginner,
Mark

Re: Vizio E371VA Power Problem?
Well I unplugged and reseated all of the connectors with the exception of the two small ribbon cables in the center top......those looked a bit fragile. Does the same thing, and I'm thinking the sound is coming from the main board in the area I circled. Go figure. Could anything in that area cause the symptoms of this fine Vizio? There are several caps in that area.
Thanks,
Mark

Re: Vizio E371VA Power Problem?
I was able to spend a few minutes with the non co-operative TV. I couldn't see any obvious arcing, but I haven't taken anything apart yet. I was able to locate where the high pitched whine is coming from before the unit goes into it's blinking back-light mode. The attached shows an arrow and a circle where I think the sound was coming from. This may mean something, maybe not....thought it was worth a shot....

Re: Vizio E371VA Power Problem?
Well, the board arrived today, didn't take long to determine that that didn't fix it.....bummer. Same flashing backlight and dimming of the Vizio logo. Anything else, or is it to the trash?
Thanks,
Mark

Re: Vizio E371VA Power Problem?
Thanks Mr. Bill,
Here's what I found:
All G-S readings were 9.1
Q1: D-G = 133.1 D-S = 116.1
Q3: Open
Q4: D-G = 134.9 D-S = 117.7
Q5: Open
Transformer No.: L2-EF37-H108228-KD
I hope I read everything correctly.
Thanks,
Mark

Re: Vizio E371VA Power Problem?
Here are the pics of the inverter board. Nothing looked out of place to me. But if it is the general opinion that this is the culprit, I'm glad to see that this board is only $42.00.
Thanks for your suggestions and advise,
Mark...

Re: Vizio E371VA Power Problem?
Here's something weird. Sometimes coming from standby, to power on via the power button. I can hear a faint very high pitched whine just before the screen starts to flash on and off. The whine quits after the screen (backlight) starts to flash. Also there is a blue led light on the board on the far left that flashes with the screen. Didn't know if that was any help or not.
Thanks,
Mark

Re: Vizio E371VA Power Problem?
OK folks, the 12's read 12.2, the 5's read 5.3 and the 24's read 24.8. If by chance the Elite is bad, wouldn't it show in these readings? Probably a stupid question, but hey it's my first rodeo!
Thanks,
Mark

Re: Vizio E371VA Power Problem?
Will do as soon as I'm home from work. The second pic is to find out if that orange cap is the one that could fail without it showing anything physically.
Thanks for the continued suggestions,
Mark

Thanks for the continued suggestions. I hope the attached pics are what you needed. Also, in the second pic, is this the orange cap that you were talking about?
Thanks again,
Mark...

Re: Vizio E371VA Power Problem?
OK, with the TV plugged in and in stand by mode the large cap read 173 volts, with the set on it read 411. And hey, I didn't cause a single arc!
Thanks again,
Mark

Re: Vizio E371VA Power Problem?
Well I checked the red leads and they all check at 24.8 volts. @budm, are you talking about the large black cap on the power supply board, at position C909? If so, any suggested precautions on the multimeter settings or how I should test?
Thanks,
Mark...Last edited by Mark355; 04-08-2012, 09:51 AM.
