    Panasonic PT-52LCX66

    Greetings BadCappers:

--I am going to try to fix a Panasonic PT-52LCX66 for a friend of mine. The lamp was recently replaced, and the set had a better picture and worked for a short while. Now the green light flashes for a while and then the red "lamp and ballast" light begins to flash every 5 seconds. I can hear relays clicking when I turn the power on or off. I have to get the remote control from my friend so I can make sure to reset the lamp timer. If that does not work, I will be opening up the set.

--When I open up the set, I will be sure to take some good 2MP pictures, for all to see.
Everything I have been able to find out so far indicates a probable fault with the Power Supply Board LSJB1206-2 (ballast board).

--Does anyone know what to check? Does anyone think it would be worthwhile to download the Service Manual for $8, see below link?

--Thanks in advance for your help.

    1) I have never worked on a projection TV so my only value add is to point out that

might have a decent service manual for free. Look for the "Get manual" icon after about 45 seconds.

I see the URL you provided and the one that I provided have the same byte sized file (16.7MB).

    2) We prefer pictures with the following composition and uploaded following the instructions in my sig file EXACTLY. I know eevblog has a lot of inline pictures, but the regulars who are able to help you prefer no inline pictures for a number of reasons (malware, slow wifi, unwanted popups, etc). See the following example

If you are new to this forum, we can help a lot more if you please post clear focused pictures (max resolution 2000x2000 and 2MB) of your boards using the manage attachments button so they are hosted here. Information and picture clarity compositions should look like this post.

We respectfully ask that you make some time and effort to read some of the guides available for basic troubleshooting. After you have read through them, then ask clarification questions or report your findings.

Please do not post inline and offsite as they slow down the loading of pages.

        Greetings BadCappers:

--Please see attached picture(s) of Power Supply Board LSJB 1206-2 from the Panasonic PT-52LCX66 I am trying to fix for a friend (I.E. no charge). I have checked everything visually and can find no sign of anything, the board appears to be pristine. Checking the resistors in situ with a DMM revealed only one definite problem. The Grey Red Green Gold Green resistor in the pictures which is 3/8" or 9.5mm long, should be 82.5 Ohms ± 0.5% is reading 8 Megohms. It connects directly to the power chord, white wire, wider plug blade.

--So it looks to me like I will need a 1 Watt (or better) 82.5 Ohm ± 0.5% resistor. I have tried DigiKey, no luck. Mouser has them in 1/4 watt, so I could series parallel 4 of them easily enough, if that is acceptable. Any fault finding or advice, would be sincerely appreciated. I can post higher resolution pictures if necessary. Thanks again.

Hi SgtRock- so did replacing the resistor fix this TV for your friend?

            Re: Panasonic PT-52LCX66

it should read 8.2 megohms.its ok.
look also for an upgrade kit for the "ballast"
some changes were made to resolve short lamp life and improve ballast reliability.
if you bought a cheap knockoff lamp it could be gone again.

              Re: Panasonic PT-52LCX66

I have not seen/found any upgrade kits for this model, I'm afraid- I found 3 different kits, and the email responses I got from the sellers (They were TV repair shops), said their kits would not work for this model.

Out of curiosity, do you know if replacing the resistor worked for this one?

                Dear PC55:

--I had to part that one out and give the parts to my friend, who did not want to fool around with it any more. I would advise you to check this forum for DLP TVs. And you should check out the DLP repair videos on the NORCAL715 youtube page. Best of Luck.

                  Re: Panasonic PT-52LCX66

Thanks for the update- I appreciate it! I have the power board out, but have not yet found out why it is mal-functioning- but I am just now trying to learn electronics, so this will be a learning experience. I am afraid all the inexpensive replacement boards are no longer available- Panasonic wants about $178 for one, and even on EBAY, the only one I found is still around $150- thus my quest to try and fix it.

In case others read this and look for a replacement, the Power Board number is now LSEP1208A1, which replaced LSEP1207A1, which was the replacement for the original board in the TV, LSEP12086A1- you may have to search for all three part numbers for a replacement, IF you can find any in stock.

Of course, I could be wrong, and the issue is on the Main Board- will have to look at that board next!

Also, just to note- this model is not a DLP TV, but a projection LCD;-)

                    Dear PC55:

--I would further recommend that you start a new thread with the Make and Model numbers in the title. Describe the behavior, and post good pictures of suspected problem areas, and clear pictures of both sides of the circuit boards concerned, see any of the other postings with good pictures. You will want close ups of the call outs of voltages for jacks; see below link to one of my latest postings where I received help:

                    https://www.badcaps.net/forum/showthread.php?t=31931

--The pictures from which are below. You will need at least a good DMM on hand, to make the checks, which will be recommended. If you do all that, I can guarantee you will receive some helpful and to the point responses by some of our most experienced members.

Thank you SgtRock (God, I remember reading that comic as a kid...very long time ago;-)

I did figure it out (same model as originated this thread). It finally occurred to me, after testing the PS caps with ESR meter and some of the transistors, that the lamp light was not blinking 30-40 times- it was repeating a single blink that many times. While one doc said maybe main board/ballast issue, the Service Manual said 'Abnormal Lamp.' And this was with a three month old Phillips bulb in it! I managed to score an inexpensive used, original Phillips bulb, and voila! It was the bulb- went out very early. Or the housing was faulty- I am having reason to suspect even the Quality Control on the 'Phillips' bulbs currently manufactured. Getting that bulb replaced under warranty.
