• Re: Samsung UN46EH5300 No Backlight, Help!

Since the LED driver board is good, it is most likely faulty LED bulbs. They are fixable, but a pain to get to. You can either replace the LED strips, or just the individual LED bulbs. ShopJimmy has a LED Bulb tester for about $54- but you can search for the same model and find it for at least $20 cheaper elsewhere. It is a nice little tool that automatically adjusts the voltage to test bulbs individually, by strip, or all the strips at once. There are many YouTube videos about how to fix- the most comprehensive one I have seen was from...

• Re: LG 42LGX Mystery Part- at least to me;-)

Sorry I have not responded in a while- moved this last year and just did not catch up with everything.

Just before I moved, I found a second, cheap replacement for that odd Signal Board that sits between the mainboard and the T-Con board, and that seems to have fixed it- TV has been fine since then. Unfortunately, I did not get the chance to try and replace the capacitors on the old Signal Board, as has been suggested here, but may try in the future if the issue returns- seems like this is an issue with these particular ...

Hi and welcome! I see it is the same part number as the Signal Board on my TV, and I have recently been re-looking at it, since the issues slightly changed when I swapped out this part- both give the silver horizontal lines and blank screen- but the original one had vertical gray lines all the time, while the new one just occassionally has a fuzzy green screen.

Anyway- I could tell nothing from the tops of the capacitors- and I see no way to disengage the board from the bottom metal cover- the top pried off easily enough-...

Well an update- sorry it took so long- I was sick for a few months and had to put aside my new hobby;-)

A summary thus far-
TV is: LG 42LG61
It has three different symptoms that rotate.
Symptom 1: Powers on, picture comes up- but there are flashing white/silver, horizontal lines across the screen- the frequency of the lines dissipates over time. This symptom occurs the most of the three, but not by much.
Symptom 2 Powers on, but black screen- has...

Thanks, Tom66- will post pic of the tcon board later- it is one of those designs where you have to remove a few things to get to it.

Regarding those components I posted the picture of earlier- for my information- what are they?

• Washed out negative image

I have a Samsung 32" LCD TV, model LN32A330J1D, that has a washed out image that almost looks like the a negative of the picture. I found one fix for this system, which was to replace one of the IC chips on the Tcon board- well, I messed that up! Drag soldering in close space is not something I have mastered yet;-)

Plan B- found a replacement really inexpensive ($23)- so replaced that and, while I had everything out, replaced the caps on the Power Board as well. Same issue- so I tortured and ruined the first Tcon board for nothing:-(

I looked at the Mainboard...

I may take it apart further to look at the tabs- have done so once before for another LCD TV, and one of the tabs bonded between the LCD panel and the Driver board was cracked, and there was a burn mark where it connected to the driver board, probably due to the crack causing a short.

But knowing how fragile these stupid tabs are, I am reluctant to tear the TV apart that far. On the previous set I looked at, there was a thick, black line coming down from the tab- a tell-tale sign of a bad tab. While the LCD could be bad...

Re: Hoodwinked?

One last follow-up to this thread. Two things, actually. First, so as not to leave even a minor disparagement to the Ebay Seller from whom I got this kit- I found the missing capacitor yesterday evening (well, my wife did;-)

It seems there was a small hole in the plastic bag that held the caps, and one fell out even before I opened the bag in another room. So- all caps were sent, as well as all of them being high-quality caps.

The second thing- the owner of the Ebay store frequents here and saw the post- he appreciated the fairness and...

Re: Hoodwinked?

These are all good points, and I recommend this site to others. That said, even mentioned within this thread is Digi-key as an alternate source, so exploring other options is not a bad thing. And kits are just easier for many to buy, so why not educate those folks as well. Not all kits will fix an issue for a given product- and not all kits are solely capacitors. I have seen some that include a mixture of components- but even those assume what the most common points of failure are. Even in Monitors, especially from a few years ago, bad capacitors were a common issue,...

I did try a bit of coolant (from an upside-down can of Air) already, on the signal board and on the cables on either side of the Signal Board. What makes this harder, since the Signal Board is separate from the Main Board, is that there are two wired cables going from the Main board to the Signal Board (1 LVDS, 1 power, maybe?), and then two Ribbon Cables going from the Signal Board to the T-Con Board (two more LVDS cables, maybe?).

I may just be unjustifiably optimistic it is one of the cables,however- touching or wriggling...

Well- I 'Huzzahed' a bit too soon, maybe. the dimly lit gray screen will still show up on occasion, as has a screen with green lines- but this is different- when the green lines show up, they stayed that way until I shut the TV off, unlike the original problem. If I put back in the original Signal Board, the original problem still occurs all the time- put back in the replacement Signal Board, mostly good. And one on, the TV will run for hours without issue.

I put back in the original T-Con board, and that did not help either....

hi Ben7- pictures are attached- from the description given by mariushm, they do appear to be Panasonic Caps- but any input is appreciated;-)

The one on the left is the larger of the two, when comparing to the original photos at the top of this thread....

Re: Hoodwinked?

Hi ratdude747! I did buy caps from here, and will again in the future, if for no other reason than to support this site- and the price for good quality caps here seems good anyway.

That said, I am not sure I would recommend to 'not' use EBAY. There are many, many bad deals on EBAY, to be sure- but also many good deals. I have used EBAY over many years to find, for example, used computer parts, among other things- including a couple of DMMs recently. But one does have to exercise good judgement and do research- caveat emptor certainly applies- but it...

started a topic Hoodwinked?

Hoodwinked?

Hi folks!

First, thanks to the nice, name-brand caps I ordered from here, I now have a working, 52" Samsung LCD TV

But- the computer tech in me was curious about the 'competition.' On Ebay, there are several sellers of capacitor repair kits for this TV I have, so I ordered one such kit for comparison. The one I chose advertises this:

"We only use high quality capacitors manufactured by Panasonic, Nichicon and Rubycon in our kits. We do not use CapXon capacitors."

They also include a tiny bit of solder, some wick and some...

Huzzah! Huzzah! For those who may read this thread in the future, it was that separate Signal Board that was the issue- found a replacement at an okay price, swapped it out, and Voila! a new(ish) LCD to mount on my wall in my work room (or the bedroom formally known as my Daughter's room- Mu-ah-ah-ah-ah-haaa!)

I will keep the bad signal board, and I hope to learn enough to figure out what ails it in the future.

Well, bummer! It was not the T-Con Board. Next step is either the Main Board, or the separate 'Signal Board' that sits between the MB and T-Con Board. I hate to guess, though I lean toward replacing this 'Signal Board' without further info. Unfortunately, I cannot find any bad component on either. If anyone has thoughts, or can help me distinquish the differences between the MB and Signal Board, I would be most appreciative;-)

Thank you Rollme- I had also found a part number not on this board, but that number finds this part in a lot more places- the majority call it a 'Signal Board,' with a couple, like the link you found, as a 'Sub T-Con Board.' I may just email them and see if they can provide an answer, for my own curiosity, since the issue with the TV is most likely the T-Con board itself (I have ordered an inexpensive replacement).

As near as I figure, it's like this model split the normally single Main Board into two separate boards-...

Thank you SgtRock (God, I remember reading that comic as a kid...very long time ago;-)

I did figure it out (same model as originated this thread). It finally occurred to me, after testing the PS caps with ESR meter and some of the transistors, that the lamp light was not blinking 30-40 times- it was repeating a single blink that many times. While one doc said maybe main board/ballast issue, the Service Manual said 'Abnormal Lamp.' And this was with a three month old Phillips bulb in it! I managed to score an inexpensive used, original Phillips...
