Philips 37PFL5322D/37 Chirping from psu

Hello,
I'm trying to repair my cousins 37" lcd. I was told the tv just flat out shut off while watching it. We pulled the back cover and discovered the 3 capacitors were bad. The 3 in a row that are circled. 1 was swollen and the other 2 leaked. We replaced the 3 and one more thats also circled in the picture. The capacitors were replaced with Nichicon 1000uf 35V capacitors. All 4 that were replaced are all the same value. We plugged the tv in to verify and now we are getting a chirping noise from the power supply. The standby light is illuminated red and it changes to green when the power button is pressed. I'm having a hard time narrowing down exactly where its coming from but my guess is its in the neighborhood of the verical transformer. Does anyone have any sugggestions as to where to start checking. I do have a multimeter but thats it. If anyone does have any suggestions i'm probably going to need specifics on exactly what to do considering i'm a total NOOB in this area.

Here is an update. With the tv plugged in but powered off you can hear a very faint ticking. Turn the tv on and you get the chirping. I read in another post that the TEA1507P chip goes bad. I checked the pins and when i checked pin #4 you can hear the ticking alot louder. Its doing it on both chips.

What were the old caps? capxon teapo? what series?

What series nichicon caps did you use to replace them? Did you match the ripple and use low esr caps?

Chirping may be the ripple not getting filter correctly and is reaching the smps controller causing it to excessively tick/chirp.

Does the TV function normally or is it still dead?

It could be a bad/loose windings on a transformer that you may be hearing, just a thought.

The original capacitors were CapXon GF series. The 4 i replaced are VZ(M) series i think. 105 degree celcius. The Tv is still dead. It wouldn't power on at all before the capacitor swap.

Here's your problem..
VZ are general purpose, not low ESR, nor does the ripple and esr come anywhere near a GF spec capacitor .

Rip them out and do it again.

Replace them with this

Panasonic FM

High ripple, low esr.
3190mA 15 mOhms to be exact.

GF were 2780mA 19 mOhms, VZ were 810mA doesn't list impedance.

I ordered the capacitors from digi-key. I'll post results when i get/install them.

Well,
we plugged the tv in for a brief moment to show a family member the chirping and discovered the big transformer (the one in the center of the pic in my first post), puffed a small amout of gray smoke on the first chirp. If you turned the set off and waited a minute then turned it back on it did it again. It came from the corner of the transformer. You can smell a burn smell from that area. So if the transfromer can be replaced is it worth replacing or should i start trolling ebay for a replacement power board. I have ordered the capacitors that mad suggested yesterday. The numbers on the transformer are:

80TL37T911 HJ
HJC-S6192
HJC DV-130-1 0720Q

The best i could find for a replacement transformer is part #996510003228

Sears parts direct shows it in stock for $2.16

Should i take the gamble? Any opinions?

If risking $2.16 represents a major risk, unsolder the transformer and check for any signs of problems - scorch marks, etc. Also check for any possible components mounted under the transformer. A shorted transformer is very rare, but considering the difference in cost, I'd buy the transformer at that price.

It looks normal. If you are sure the puff of smoke was from the transformer, replace it.

Its FIXED!!

It wasn't the transformer. The puff of smoke was coming from the one diode directly next to the transformer. P6KE120A

I went to radio shack and got a diode. Installed it and the chirping is gone and i have a screen. I'm gonna now order the correct part from digi-key and that should seal the deal.

I was just wondering, what the exact position of the faulty diode was (like D925 ...)

Check those 3 Diodes, remove them to test them out off the board.
The one Bill replaced is part of the snubber circuits.

They are not all the same, look at the p/n as printed.

Wow this board has been a lot of help. I also have the chirping issue and started a new post yesterday on this site in regards to it. So far i also replaced the 4 capacitors along with a ceramic capacitor located in the same area as the bad zener diodes by the transformer. I too had my board plugged in to show someone the noise when i noticed a puff of smoke from the ceramic capacitor.
After doing diode tests i could not get a reading at location 6062. I have removed the diode and now I can't figure out how to match the diode to buy a new one. The numbers on it only bring up data sheets on google and i cannot figure out the chart. Radioshack is clueless and i'm a novice so everything is a learning process right now.
Has anyone ever replaced the diode at location 6062? I'm hoping i can replace that today and recheck the zener diodes that everyone says to replace by the transformer. Does anyone know what i should be getting for readings on these diodes? As a last resort i was going to swap the transformer if it is cheap and easy to find.
Have been scared to do voltage tests on the board because it gets so hot as soon as it is plugged in. I'm nervous i will do more damage keeping it plugged in while testing so i have only been performing resistance checks so far which i know won't get me far.
I work on diesel engines and repairing tvs on the side has been my little hobby lately that i'm getting into. However by the end of the night i would like to crack open a beer and enjoy the picture on this 42mf521d/37!


Also i apologize, i know these questions have been asked already and i'm doing my best to search the threads for info before asking. But this will be day 3 now and frustration is starting to set in!! I plan on going through some of Mr. Bills voltage tests with my DMM if I have to...

Thanks Mr. Bill. My TV is now working again thanks to you. My bad caps were replaced and my Philips TV stilled chirped until these two diodes were replaced too.
