    42PFL3704D/F7 No picture

    Hey Guys,

You very helpful badcap members previously helped me repair a power supply issue by replacing 3 caps in a 42" Philips, thank you very much!

I got my hands on a newer LCD (42PFL3704D/F7) that turns on and stays on, has audio, but no picture. I can see the light in the back turn on and the screen is illuminated but black.

Any idea where i can start on this? Thank you for any feedback in advance!

For many reasons which I won't go into, we want the pictures uploaded to this forum using the "manage attachments" and not offsite. Pictures should be no bigger than 2000x2000 resolution. Also, please do not post inline.

If you are new to this forum, we can help a lot more if you please post clear focused pictures (max resolution 2000x2000 and 2MB) of your boards using the manage attachments button so they are hosted here. Information and picture clarity compositions should look like this post.

We respectfully ask that you make some time and effort to read some of the guides available for basic troubleshooting. After you have read through them, then ask clarification questions or report your findings.

Please do not post inline and offsite as they slow down the loading of pages.

The power supply is probably okay, but just to rule it out have you checked the output voltages on it?

Also that power supply is disappointing to see in a Philips, full of cheap caps and the design doesn't seem well thought out.

Sorry, i don't have an multimeter to test voltages with at the moment. If you had to guess would it be the T-Con or Inverter board?

The inverters control the backlight. So if your seeing the screen's backlight clearly turn on, and the screen seems evenly lit up then the inverters seem to be working.
Fixed so far 12 lcd's , 1 plasmas, 5 monitors, 0 dlp's (plan to keep the dlps at 0). and 3 atx power supplies, and 2 motherboards.

Only T-Con, Main or power supply (rarely) could cause these symptoms. To test them, you *will* need a multimeter, even if it's a cheapo £5 (digital) one.

Well i feel dumb... received new t-con in the mail via shopjimmy.com, knowing it was the wrong board i tried to plug it in to see if maybe it could work. Nope. Now i think i shorted a fuse because i get no power. Plug it in and no light.

You will have to buy a multimeter to check voltages and fuses. There is no other way to know what is wrong. Does it do the same thing without the new T-con plugged in?

                      Buy one: http://www.ebay.com/itm/New-LCD-Digi...item2564eadf33

This will be fine for basic testing. It's nothing special, but you will need it for any repair.

Finally got my hands on a multimeter. Where should i begin testing? I was wrong about the backlight, it doesn't turn on. A new one was only $40 on ShopJimmy.com so i swapped it out but no luck. The white power light comes on, i hear a zap noise when i turn the tv on and off (stays on), but black screen. I can hear sound and flip through the channels. Thanks for sticking with me on this guys, i should have got the multimeter sooner

I ended up getting a Equus 3320 Innova Auto Ranging Digital Multimeter from Wal-Mart.

I now have an illuminated backlight but still no picture. Here is a video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nZGcwsMzTpo

In the video i press the menu button but nothing shows on the screen.

Have you checked the inverter boards?

Pictures of these also would help.

Pictures of inverter are posted above in the OP. How do i go about testing the T-Con board? That is my main culprit since i have swapped the inverter, main, and backlight with no luck (i plan to return these).

What is followed by the t-con board?

Do a search in ebay for (42PFL3704D). This search will lead you to what the inverter board looks like. It's green. Sometimes it's under a heatsink or something.

I have already replaced the backlight inverter with no luck. I thought you meant inverter power board which is pictured above.
