Thank you gentlemen, by replacing the cap on MC201/MC301 now the unit works like a charm, thank you again for your time and much appreciated.
    cheers to all.

Great to hear! Enjoy your TV. Aside from the odd MC201/MC301 issue (and AC detect and loose LVDS cable, but much, much rarer), these are incredibly reliable sets and could easily live to 15~20 years no problem, very well built by Panasonic. Shame the newer ones aren't so well built .

Re: Panasonic plasma TH-42PZ80U 2 blink 15v SOS

        Hi,

I had a 15V SOS as well. First I checked the F201/F301 and they were OK. Due to the postings I replaced the two TEA1611T plus caps on MC201 and MC301 and switched on the TV.

        Now I get a 5V SOS...

I had a further look on the P-Board as well and found that the F201 is blown. So I checked the two 2x16N55G FETs below the board and one seems to be defect now (see marked area in attachment).

I'm little bit afraid just to exchange the 16N55G while the main issue is still there and to blow F201 and 16N55G again...

Does anybody have an idea what could happen to my ETX2MM704MG P-Board?

5 blinks SOS: check panel for shorts, by unplugging C boards. If panel (PDP) shorted, cannot be repaired. If OK, then more likely main board (A board) than anything.

            Hi,

with F201 defect the VSUS is defect, I was assuming this has a relationship to the 5V SOS.

So you think I can replace F201 and the 16N55G as you assume the rootcause to be somewhere outside P board?

I have this same set was 2 blink code I replaced the ic's & caps on 201 & 301, also the 16n55g's. Initially I had the screen working but it was really bright but could see the picture, all voltages were proper using mm so I adjusted brightness all the way down on the menu. 20 min on then it blew the 16n55g's again. I have no o-scope to see if the voltage is unstable or proper but a have fluke 117mm. is it possible the ic driver is bad causing the 15v to be unstable or the caps take a shot when the fet blew the first time? Ordering two more fet's in 2014 but hate to just pop them again suggestions

Did you check what the VSUS measured when it worked? Perhaps that was set too high.

Yes checked it even lowered by 2v to see if that would help was no change wondering if the driver ic is not operating properly may swap them to see if it changes

Check Vset and Vda, on SC and PSU respectively.

Well think I found the issue with the 15v supply there's a zener diode missing on my ps @ location zd202 it is tied to the mc201 board that controls the switching for the 16n55's I keep blowing, Any one know the value or the color code its marked with? As its missing. The one that is next to mc301 is red & violet striped & the body is light purple in color. Was worked on by others apparently before I got it crap.

Just checked a spare *702 board of mine from a PZ80B and it has that zener missing too. Mine has 2 blinks but I never managed to get FETs going. Ended up finding a PSU with the common 10 blink fault, fixed that and used that in this set.

looks like its not used from pic I've seen but someone desoldered the location for it back to the drawing board have the 16n55 in now to test some more

You could use a light bulb limiter when testing by cutting out F201 and putting a bulb in its place....

jettboat, I've got two *702MF boards and none has any zener at ZD202.

I'm also struggling to get my 42PZ800A running having 10 blinks error. Changed the caps and ICs on MC201 & 301 after which it gave 2 LED blinks. No blown fuses. I thought I messed up something. So, bought another PSU from ebay which was pulled from a TV having 10 blinks error. I straight away installed to check and got the same 2 blinks error Though I have a service manual for the TV but I'm not an expert. So, any help will be appreciated.

Re: Panasonic plasma TH-42PZ80U 2 blink 15v SOS

2 blinks on these is "early abort" of VSUS which is an odd one. In the service manual it say 15V. Basically you want to check VSUS while TV powers on. If VSUS doesn't rise then isolate SC and SS board (you may get 6,7,8 blinks.) If it still doesn't rise then you have a problem on the PSU.

2 blinks is generated by D board.

Basically PSU will turn on and work normally, but as soon as it sees VSUS is low, it wlll turn off 15V causing D board to sense low 15V.

Also, a short in 15V after the additional 15V rails switch on can cause 2 blinks.

i did repair a tv like this 3 weeks ago.
at first i putt a bad smd cap in and it did the same. until i check with capacitor meter and saw witch caps was good i did not had a chance to fix it without knowing what cap to install there
Just cook it! It's already broken.

Thanks dj. how did you check the caps?

I think 16N55G FETs may also be the culprit. So, I'm planning to change the FETs also.

Vscan should be around 140V. Is 15V good? Vs @ 190V rated is quite low for this type of panel - I have ones at 198V and 207V.
