    Philips 42PFL9632D/10 inverter failure

Hello. Set came in with sound but no picture. Found a blown control-IC (BD9897FS) on the slave inverter board. The slave and master inverter boards are sold as a pair very reasonable priced, but the question is does the blown ic indicate a failure elsewhere and risk to blow the new boards?
Or can I summarize this as ordinary part failure?
    Thanks!

Without pictures, I'm assuming that these inverters are the ones that have been made for several sets and is a common failure as seen here in my post (#29):

After seeing about two sets with this same failure, I quickly purchased about 10 of those chips on ebay (BD9897FS). You can replace the chip for about $10 or replace one board for $50 plus shipping. Some replace both boards as a pair but I dont buy it. Keep the repair as cheap as possible.

I also wanted to add that there is a known defect either in the chip or in the circuit design.

I replaced a chip on the slave board on one set with the same exact symptoms - sound but no picture. Then about six months later, the same set had no sound and no picutre. This time the master board had that chip blown instead of the slave. Again the chip was replaced and it's been working for about a year now. Bad batch of chips?? Who knows. I have a feeling that keeping the brightness & contrast lower on these sets will reduce the rate of failure of these chips.

Somewhere around here is a link to a circuit modification LG has ordered for these inverters. I would think that performing that mod would be a very good idea.

For a number of reasons, both health and personal, I will no longer be active on this board. Any PMs asking for assistance will be ignored.

Buying the chip alone from my dealer is 30$, buying a pair of new inverter boards is 72$ so I will chose the pair of new boards. Hopefully the mod is done to these new boards.

Wow. Dealer my ass. Theres no deal there. I found one on Ebay for 4.25 plus 2.50 shipping = grand total of 6.75. If that's not worth it, I dont know what is. $6.75 vs $72 for new pair of boards is about ten times the cost. The mod usually will not be done on the boards. They are usually direct replacements.

Here is the post where it has the modification plans for the inverter board. #48

              by G33RT
Philips 8200 series 65PUS8204/12 stuck at Philips Logo, it does not reboot it just stays on the logo.

It does power up when pressing the power button.

I already try the power button while plugin the plug with no result.
Also put the latest firmware autorun-TPM191E_R.001.004.100.000.upg on a MBR/FAT32 USB stick at USB port2 with no result either.

Could this be an PSU or eMMC issue ?

I have a tripp-lite aspint 3636vr inverter charger which blow some of mosfet transistors. I replaced them repaired also the driver circuit and tested but the mosfets burn again.

It work very well as inverter and also as charger if I let the rear switch in auto mode (inverter) and charger only(charging) but in auto when I connect the feed line 220V AC first time it pass ok to line and start charging the batteries but when I remove the feed line it pass to inverter mode and if I do it again the second time when passing from charging to inverter the Main transformer start making a...

For some reason I'm just not going to let this 19" TV defeat me. I guess because I have a schematic to work from I feel like I'm oh so close.

History- while adding a turn-on circuit I let a small screw roll under the power board. Worked through all of that circuitry, probably replacing a MOSFET and PWM controller that were not bad but I was following the service manual. Finally figured out that the power supply is in working order when the inverter section (for the backlights) is disconnected. When the +12 supply to the inverter is disconnected the +12 and +5 will come up...

A modified sine wave inverter + a grid tie inverter?
              by eccerr0r
If I had a solar fed grid tie inverter (GTI), a modified sine wave inverter, and a power outage occurred, what would happen if you disconnected mains, backfed the modified sinewave inverter (MSI) into house power, and hooked up the GTI to the output of the MSI, would it work?

Next thing is trying to charge the batteries using solar power, but that's another issue ...
