New battery tested and everything works as expected.
So the shorted system rail somehow caused damage to the battery smbus / bms controller.

The connector is ok, the battery has been working well before. And it's not possible to reverse the connection (poka yoka key). When battery is removed Windows says the same as with the battery, fully charged 100%.
I guess it's the battery which is in charge of telling charger IC to start charge?
I will try another battery soon.Last edited by PowerAmpFreak; 10-07-2024, 10:31 AM.

Attached the schematic for the charger IC.
It's typical sync buck topology.
In Windows, the battery symbol says battery fully charged....

Sorry but I misread your first post. The voltages above is with battery connected.

Is it common for a battery to fail when exposed to a shorted system rail?
The battery outputs zero volts after this. Is there a built in fuse in the battery that can be replaced?

ASUS Battery B31N1726 diagnosis
I had a ceramic cap failure in an ASUS G731 across the main system rail, and after replacing the cap, laptop works good. The only thing which is not OK, is there are no voltage on the battery-line.
So my question is: Can a direct short across the main system rail kill the battery?
Can I try to charge the battery with a current limited lab supply to diagnose the battery?
See the attached picture. The obvious black and red wires, but there are one white and one yellow aswell. Do I have to "enable" the battery terminals in any way through shorting any to minus or...Last edited by PowerAmpFreak; 09-25-2024, 11:29 AM.

What is a typical resistance measured across the lowside fets in the high current core supply buck converter?
I recently had another ceramic cap failed across the AC_SYS_BAT rail, and after replacing it, the PC works, but when measuring across the core supply to GND, there is very low resistance. The core supply works though. So I need to figure out if the load of the core is very low resistance.

I am the OP of this thread and the pc has worked perfectly for over one year. Yesterday suddenly during operation it just died and when probing for shorts it seems the core buck is shorted, so my question is if you believe there are more common for caps shortage or just a CPU failure?

Powersoft schematics needed
Hello if anyone has the service manual / schematics for either the Powersoft Digam Q3002 (or Q4004 or very similair) or the K3 , all models in "K-series" is OK since they are very similair.
I will appreciate it a lot.

Re: Denon DN-501C CD-player not reading CD
Finally solved. After some more troubleshooting the laser pickup flatcable was faulty, it had several broken strands.
After replacing the CD works nicely.

Hello. Thanks for the Denon service manual. I still have not made this player work. Do you have a Russian site that could give datasheet for laser pickups? I want to know the difference between EP-HD870PB and SF-HD870. It might be the case I have got the wrong type of pickup. Thanks

Laser pickup EP-HD870PB vs SF-HD870
Hello
Anyone came across datasheets for the laser pickups:
EP-HD870PB
SF-HD870
I want to know the differences if any

Re: Denon DN-501C CD-player not reading CD
The original pickup has partnumber EP-HD870PB and I replaced it with SFHD870 after reading some info that it should be compatible, but does anyone know if this is true ?

Re: Denon DN-501C CD-player not reading CD
I had the chance to try another cd drive from another Denon DN unit and that also does not work in this maschine
So it seems the fault is in the control board.
(The drive works in the other maschine)

Re: Denon DN-501C CD-player not reading CD
Even after replacing the laser pickup (and desolder the ESD protection) the player behaves exactly the same.
During TOC read, there are ZERO output from the RF front-end chip. My question is what level the RF should be on the pick-out itself before the preamp, anyone knows ?
(Typically)

Re: Denon DN-501C CD-player not reading CD
Thanks to the service manual I could measure the laser pickup was worn out. The current regulator showed a very much higher value than limit.
So a new pickup is ordered.
