Yep, no change on mine. It looks like all the voltages are correct, is there another part of the board I should look at?

Re: Vizio VX32L turns on with backlight, no video or sound

      I got a picture!
I replaced U33,U7,U9 voltages were low for all three on the board -off the board only U33 appears bad. I had to remove some caps to get to U33,U7,U9. They did not unsolder very well! Must be GND planes. I removed 5 100uF 16V( measured 71uF-79uF) and 3 220uF 25V (Measured 191uF -199Uf).I wonder how many other caps are out of tolerance or bad ESR ( I still don't have ESR meter).I replaced the 8 caps.
Have not fully tested all functions yet but I have to turn the volume up to 50 + to hear it , even maxed at 100 it is not super loud.
Anything else to check before I put it together?
Thanks for all the help and I hope we can still help Ayelix !!!!!

Glad you got yours working. I am leaving tomorrow to go back to school, break's over . I'll have to wait until the school year's over before I can work any more on this. I'll bump the thread then and see if I have any new ideas.
        Thanks

Re: Vizio VX32L turns on with backlight, no video or sound

I have a VW32l-HDTV20 with similar issue. after reading the forums i need help also. the unit had a pop sound then quit, when powered the vizio stays amber one the front. it will show no other signs of life, the power supply has 5v but i can not get 12v or 24v at the power supply. i checked the main board as follows.
f1 is good and has 5v on either side, f2 is good and no voltage on either side. u17 on center leg has 3.5v, u15 low V 2.5, U21 low of 1.5v possibly lack of voltage from u19?? u19 has 2.8v. i dont have a u33 at all. im guessing a bad power supply, i cant see any voltage past the transformers. but yet i do have 5 v on the edge connector. so does anyone know for sure my problem or do i have multiple problems?, i would like to trouble shoot the PS, any suggestions. does the unit need to be on to see 12v.24v? i dont see any signs of popped components or burnt anything. thanks,

            1. The power supply is a dual unit, standby and main. The standby section (typically 5 volts) is on whenever the TV is plugged in. The main board switches on the main section of the power supply.

Obviously you have a different version of the main board. I suggest posting a picture of your main board and another of your power supply. Sharp, well lit pictures at a resolution of close to (but not over) 2000 x 2000 pixels are best. Attach them using 'manage Attachments" below the text entry area. If you also list the part numbers of the ICs you listed above, it will be easier to identify the problem.

Perhaps the pictures are too large? I recommend VuePrint Pro for resizing. Cropping, resizing, and saving is a simple 3 step process. It's free, note the serial number on the download page.

Okay, so i took some pic's and i labeled one called 4533M (to help see location)- here are the voltages i read with tv plugged in to AC and nothing else.

                  u15 Gnd Vo Vi
                  1.4 2.3 5.13

                  u17 2.0 3.3 5.15

thanks,, maybe i just need to purchase a handful amc1117 and go to soldering. BTW these are all amc1117

There may be something wrong with U15. I can't be sure because you only give 2 significant figures, I would expect the voltage on pin 2 to be 1.25 volts greater than the voltage on pin 1. It is only .9 volts higher, but I'm not sure if that is due to your using too high a range.

I could search through all the posts in this thread and see if the part number for U15 is mentioned. Or you could do that; that way the guy wanting the information is doing the work. Or you could post the numbers you read on the IC. That way we know we are recommending the right part.

i have performed the search on the forum and the only listing is the post we are currently on. The numbers I have on the top of the U15 regulator are 1084 0740AL. Trust me.....the guy wanting the info has done the searching, I was just wondering if anyone knew from experience such as the gentleman (sportsman99) that has replaced it. Thanks for your help so far.

I understand the confusion. This is a 1084 type regulator, which is a 'jelly bean' part - made by many manufacturers, all essentially the same. The complication for you is that every manufacturer uses a two or three letter prefix. For example, National Semiconductor uses LM; their part number LB1084IS-ADJ is the adjustable version; it's available from DigiKey for $3.58. They also carry it from Diodes, Inc as AP1084KLDICT-ND and from Semtec as EZ1084CMTRTCT-ND. Double check the pin organization and package before ordering. If you are outside the US, I'm sure there are reliable sellers on eBay with the part.

Thanks to all the posted in this thread. I was able to repair my friends Vizio VX37l by replacing the regulator in position U33. $.80 part was the cause of the problem.

I ordered the SMD1-ND CHIPQUIK low melt solder to make the removal easy, a new soldering tip, and 4 of the regulators. For $20 and some time I now have a working TV.

Aloha, I have the same symptoms on my VX32L - turns on with backlight, no video or sound. I measured the outputs of all the LDOs and here are the readings:

                                      V1-2 V1-3 V2-3

                                      Any ideas?

At a quick glance, if the regulators are adjustable types they are good, but you are doing the measurements incorrectly. Use a ground point such as a mounting screw as the reference point (black lead of the DMM) and measure the voltage on each pin of the regulators. In addition to listing the position of the regulator, list the part number.

I was given this TV from my great uncle. He said it just wouldn't turn on one day out of nowhere, replaced the TV, and gave it to me to possibly fix and use for myself.

Upon bringing it home and plugging it up, it showed a standby light.

I powered it on and without a flashlight, the display showed the "V" but the lighting is very dim, but visible.

The screen seems to blackout and stay black, but with a flashlight I can see the display.

With my Playstation 4 connected via HDMI, and running a game I can hear sound.

so i took out one of my spare gigabyte ep35-ds3r mobos from storage for use to do some cpu, ram and video card testing of stuff i bought from ebay and got for free from momaka. he bought 50 e8400 cpus for cheap from ebay some years ago and i decided to help him relieve him of some of his supply since he had waaaay too many!! what did we say about hoarding too much stuff and depriving others of them?! *cough* socialism *cough* lol!

i had to blow some dust off the board and heatsinks with the datavac as i didnt clean it up before putting it in storage. after finishing...

Hi I inherited a Vizio M65-E0 that isn't working. It must have been dropped on the corner because I found that the infrared circuit had a capacitor with one end broken off of the board and some green corrosion around the plug to the main board. I re-soldered the capacitor and cleaned the corrosion well and tried turning the M65-E0 on and I was successful. My problem is that while the back lights come on and appear to perform local dimming there is no picture or sound. It kind of looks like you are looking at the TV through a very dense fog, where changing the input on the remote will change bright...

Ok so here's the story. I was watching tv one day when all of a sudden I heard a pop from the back of the tv set and rushed to unplug the set. By this time the tv already had smoke coming out the back. It was not storming or inclement weather that day to cause a power surge to the best of my abilities. When I opened the tv up, I found that the three capacitors on the psu (highlighted in red) were all bulging and looked they had exploded. I replaced all of them right away and when I went to start up the tv after the "fix" it started just showing the flashing vizio logo as soon as power...
