Those were fairly common here a few years ago, but were branded Rexpower or Maxpower.I love putting bad caps and flat batteries in fire and watching them explode!!

Get away with using unapproved caps? Maybe the agency marks are bogus. If real, the samples provided the agencies for testing had the right parts, and then cheaper unapproved parts usd in production. How much risk is there for a fly-by-night mfr?PeteS in CA

What agencies? Nobody officialy cares! You can just stick CE on anything and sell in Europe. Well, you actually probably even do not need to do that, nobody checks even the bloody CE mark…

If it was fine prior to power off, I would suspect an issue with a startup circuit. Since the startup is only needed at.. startup... constantly running the thing will not show an issue until you power it off and try to turn it on again.

hmmm can I get a second confirming that its just glue?
That sucks as it is the only obvious thing I can see.
Does anyone have someone in New York city (I'm in Brooklyn heights) that they can recommend to check it out?
I'm comfortable pulling the board and soldering replacement capacitors but out of my league to trouble shoot a circuit.
I tested the batteries (52v at terminal and 12v on each individual battery) so don't think that's the issue.Comment

The glue gets conductive, this was never supposed to be used in electronics so if it is already brown somewhere, clean it out. Check all fuses and power semiconductors. Back in 2020 i bought a (2nd hand) compact ATX psu to replace my current one. My PC case only fits very short ATX power supplies so i didn't really have the choice of buying a decent 80Plus unit. The current unit is a modded YoungYear unit that i made a thread about a while ago:

The "new" unit is a KDM-M6480 480W psu, the 480W number is a typical KDM bullshit claim of course, but the 24A rating on the 12V rail seemed reasonable and the "Active PFC" claim gave me a bit of hope that this was going to be decent-ish.... -

I tried powering it up. It's a KILLER - not fried, but sure will fry things! I got 21V out of it unloaded according to my DMM!
I tried 21W load (car lamp) - got 16V, which is really pushing that lamp.
Then I tried a 50W load (car headlight) - got 13.2V. Not too bad but this is with the heavy load...except the circuit breaker kept tripping.
So I had to take a peek:

I'm learning electronics(already have some basics) by fixing a FH52M LA-J891P rev1B. It come from an acer nitro 5. The charger was defaulting upon pluging. The 19V rail resistance is 0ohm (I believe that caps screw my measurement). When i inject 5A, I get a rail tension of 1.3V, and 0.8V vcccore.
Except the cpu, I cant feel anything getting warmer.
I believe that it is normal, because the cpu is "eating" half the power I'm imputing.
I dont know if the cpu is fried, because I did not remove the big capacitor on vcccore.

I was given this tv today. It was purchased just last month and only used for 3 weeks until recently when water leaked down the back and behind the cover. I removed the boards and WHOA 😲 did this thing get fried. Unfortunately the water got directly onto the backlights portion of the PSU. The board appears to be completely unrepairable, but I'm not certain about the backlights. I managed to get the probes of my tester into the slits of the plug and I DO get readings from both strings. I'm getting 26v from both. The PSU says LED Output is 167.4v however. Would this indicate that the backlights... -
While installing new SSD's in my new to me Dell 5520 laptop, I dropped a screw which sparked and fried a capacitor. Yes, I know I should have disconnecte the battery first Doh!😡. The laptop runs fine, but I want to replace the capacitor asap. I ordered and received the replacement (10uF, 25V 0603). Since I also managed to burn up one of the pads it was soldered to, my main question is whether it is okay to solder this capacitor on top of another capacitor (same size, same function in circuit). Specifically, PC4428 is bad and no way to easily solder to the board. I would like to solder it piggy...
