    Rosewill RD500

I got a new psu for my computer today. I took out my old 500W rosewill stallion and immediatly opened it up. I can't really identify the brand of caps. They are all the same, and the logo looks like a small planet with a ring around it. Has decent heatsinks on the VRM's, and has two main caps, kinda thinking its not a active pfc then.

My new psu, a HEC zephyr (now, hold on...) 750W. Has 4 12v rails each at 19A. The main cap is a Teapo (eek,) and the rest of the caps are UCC (decent.)

Although they don't have a real name, here I think they are officially called "Saturn Logo" .
I see them a lot in newer L&C/Deer PSUs (these caps are almost like a trademark to them). If L&C/Deer is using it, it must be crap.
I've always wondered how we should rate them - better than Fuhjyyu?? worse than GSC/Evercon/Sacon??.

          Thanks!
Was looking for reviews of the HEC Zephyr but couldn't find one that mentioned the caps.

The one I see is SC.

The first logo is Y.C. brand. [YANG-CHUN ELECTRONICS - China.].
I don't think they have a website though.

                                Oh HEC yes.
                                Pardon the pun.

HEC has been around a LONG time as an OEM.
They also go by "HERALCHI" and "CompuCase".

Their cheap retail units are just that, cheap. Anything in to Orion series is crap for sure. Those don't have complete input filters. I don't have specifics on their non-Orion 'economy' models so I avoid them.

BUT: Their higher grade models like "Ace" and "WinPower____" are decent.
[I dunno about the older WinMill or newer WinPro lines. Meaning I dunno if they are part of the WinPower 'family' type build or are something else entirely.]

For a long time ZEPHYR was the only series 'equal to or up from' Ace and WinPower that HEC had at all, which is why I've been looking for a review.

They've more recently come out with a "Raptor" and "X-Power" series which sound a little too much like they've outsourced from -a particular- crap OEM builder. At least until I've seen some reviews with the guts open I'm staying away.

                                BTW:
"Ace" and "WinPower____" are the same build except the fan arrangement and heat sinks which gives them different watt ratings. The labeled power in realistic too.
They aren't for people that want some video card that's a pig about eating +12v amps but the 480-550w units have something like 240 watts on combined 3.3v and 5v. Great if you have a situation where you wanna run a butt-ton of hard drives in one case. (RAID File server / a big NAS for example.).

                                .

Well, mine is a Zephyr 750W. Its not completely unrealistically labeled. 170W combined on the 3.3 and 5v. 720W combined from the 4 12v rails (maybe a little higher than it can acutally do,) has a 120mm fan on the bottom, and a 80mm fan on the rear. The 80mm kicks on at 60% load, which it has yet to kick on for me.

I don't think the WinPower, ACE, or Zephyr are over-watted on the label.
                                    Sorry if I implied otherwise.

I've never needed that much on 12v because I don't do 'fancy' gamer type video cards.

                                      Rosewill 1200w blown APFC? Mosfet.

I got this with a blown fuse. Replaced fuse and the APFC mosfet blew.

Removed the mosfet and got 5VSB, then when I connected PWON to ground the Fuse blew again.

So do I need to replace the mosfet? Or should I be looking elsewhere? Thanks.

According to a review of the 1500w unit there is an option for 4 transistors instead of 3 and they are different: https://www.tomshardware.com/reviews...su,4823-3.html

Recommend a decent Multimeter on the cheap

                                      Hi all,

I was looking to upgrade my main multimeter (Asita MD591) with something that has more features. I'll use it mostly for board diagnostic and diy repairs. I've been eyeing out many of those multi-function ones from Aliexpress but can't seem to make my mind up. Here are the features that I'm looking after:

                                      - Autorange
                                      - DC volts up to 30V
                                      - Accurate Resistance
                                      - Diode test (Beep mode)
                                      - Frequency up to 200MHz
                                      - Capacitanze up to 5000uF
                                      - as cheap as possible

Other functions are not needed but those which are needed...

Decent budget friendly Hot Tweezers ?
                                      by D_Pac
                                      Hi,

I'm after a pair of hot tweezers for motherboard rework, could anyone advise on a brand / model that's good balance between cost / usability ?

I currently have an unused Quick 236 soldering station, any chance there's compatible tweezers for it (I couldn't find anything).

                                      Thanks

                                      Rosewill RV-600 power supply fixed...
                                      by imaddicted2u
Rosewill RV-600 power supply shut down PC today.
Tested it using my power supply tester.
                                      12V supplies were 11.8V and -12V was -11.1V
                                      Replaced bulging C12, was a 1000μfd 16V. Replaced with 25V rated cap.
Tweaked up the +12V using the only trim pot on the board. the -12V came up to -11.4.
Cooling fan was close to seized, cleaned/lubed the bearing/shaft.
                                      Reinstalled. Working good.
PC seems much faster after badcap was replaced.

Onkyo HT-R510 turns on and then immediatly off
                                      by redbaron1007
I picked up an Onkyo HT-R510 that when I plug it in and press the power button will turn on and then a couple of seconds later turn itself off. When it turns on you can hear the relay click and then immediately click again and shut the power to the system off. I spent about 5 hours today trying to troubleshoot it and I did make some progress that may not actually tell me anything. It's still not really working and I'm not quite sure where to go next.

Here's everything I've done so far.

The first thing I did was open it up and check for any burn marks exploded parts...
