Want to check if these silicone rectifiers are bad / shorted (IN5402) but not ever tested one before.

Alright think I might have a dodgy mosfet, it doesn't seem to drain.
negative probe on source
and positive probe on the drain
0.718v (even after shorting the gate and the drain or shorting all 3 legs)

Put meter in Ohm mode to see if it shows low resistance between Source and Drain pins, when semi shorted out it will no longer act like semiconductor.Never stop learning

Not used ohm mode before I think, but I think this is correct mode (unless you meant continuity mode)
reading 0.511m Ohm

It is P-CH MOSFET with body diode, reverse the red and black probe and see what resistance you get.

That is what I expected, the 500K Ohms was the reading of the body Diode of the MOSFET when you have Red on the Drain and Black on the Source, so when you reverse the probe, the diode is in reverse bias so the meter show OL -Over range. look at the spec sheet of the MOSFET.
99% of the POWER MOSFET failure will be shorted (Low Ohms) beteen Source and Drain pin.Last edited by budm; 11-22-2015, 05:24 PM.Never stop learning

On the IRFP240 when I put

in ohm mode I get 2.103m ohm
when I reverse I get 0.L
Is that shorted?

I read EBOOK of Testing Electronic Component and found that
"In order to test the small blue resin coated ceramic disk capacitor which has 104 50v specification,it is possible to test this small ceramic capacitor by making use of analogue meter.
Set to times 10Kohm that has 12v output from the probe to check disorder of ceramic capacitor.

This is my first attempt at troubleshooting a board like this, I know I could just buy a new board but I'm curious to figure out how this works. I've been testing different components in the evenings this week and I think the problem is with the IC failing to start up for some reason. When the board is plugged in there is no standby voltage.
Then today it randomly sprung to life like a zombie but shortly died thereafter. I have no idea why it would have done that and its the first time I've seen it running. I discharged capacitors on the board last night, then it was sitting today.... -

I have power adaptor(220V/input, 12V 1.2A/output) which has symptom of fluctuating output DC voltage between 11.5V-12.2V.
So I opened its plastic case and when switched it on, I heard constant tik tik sound from inside its PCB.
I measured DC voltage between negative and positive pin of the largest capacitor(400v 10uf) and it was measured contant 300V.
I also measured ESR value of all capacitors and I noticed that one of capacitor(KMG 16v 470uf), which located in the secondary side, have high ESR value(10 ohm),So I replaced it with same specification NXH capacitor.... -
2+ year old TV with many (720? 65" version has 720) mini LED dimming zones. TV boots, has sound, panel picture can be seen with flashlight. No backlight. No TV model sticker on rear panel (Maybe Samsung service removed it, read below). Found the model # through the PSU and zoned LED driver board numbers.
PSU has a click near LED output circuit at 1 second interval, sounded like the 4x barrier rectifier area. Protective pastic liner under PSU shows heat signature on the Schottky Barrier Rectifier in this circuit. Found a shorted diode (2 diode per rectifier, failed rectifier labled... -
Back in 2020 i bought a (2nd hand) compact ATX psu to replace my current one. My PC case only fits very short ATX power supplies so i didn't really have the choice of buying a decent 80Plus unit. The current unit is a modded YoungYear unit that i made a thread about a while ago:

The "new" unit is a KDM-M6480 480W psu, the 480W number is a typical KDM bullshit claim of course, but the 24A rating on the 12V rail seemed reasonable and the "Active PFC" claim gave me a bit of hope that this was going to be decent-ish....
