Hantol HPSU550. Worst power supply. Εver.

Worse than the psu itself is the fact that it powered a quad core PC, 2 dimm ram and 8600GT....

    https://www.badcaps.net/forum/attach...1&d=1400287499

There is nothing useful even for parts inside that power supply unit.

    https://www.badcaps.net/forum/attach...1&d=1400287499
    https://www.badcaps.net/forum/attach...1&d=1400287499

The case is thin like tinfoil, the fan had its label loose and the rubber seal wasn't fitting in hole, awfully thin heatsinks, tiny transformers, 330uF primary caps and 1x1000uF secondary capacitor for every main voltage output, without any coil!

    https://www.badcaps.net/forum/attach...1&d=1400287499
    https://www.badcaps.net/forum/attach...1&d=1400287499

There are also the usual 13007 transistors, 20 Ampere schottky rectifiers and 10 ampere STPR1020CT for 12V!!!
    https://www.badcaps.net/forum/attach...1&d=1400287499
I can't believe that this ultra fast rectifier didn't blow considering it powered a Quad core cpu and 8600GT GPU. The PCB is burnt around it. The fan worked at 12V of course!

    https://www.badcaps.net/forum/attach...1&d=1400287716
Well, at least it has passive PFC. But wait, I saved the best for the end... This PFC made me suspicious right after I saw it. Let's look more closely:

    https://www.badcaps.net/forum/attach...1&d=1400287865
    https://www.badcaps.net/forum/attach...1&d=1400287865
    It's absolutely fake!!!
    https://www.badcaps.net/forum/attach...1&d=1400287865
If you are as interested to see what's inside as I was, I took photos of its "core":
    https://www.badcaps.net/forum/attach...1&d=1400287865
    https://www.badcaps.net/forum/attach...1&d=1400287865

I think they waste their money.. They should fake the PFC cable too! Look at the PCB:
    https://www.badcaps.net/forum/attach...1&d=1400288885
Like the Powertech gutless wonder psu I got 2 months ago, the PFC connector is on the same PCB track! Mystery solved! Powertech probably also comes in "PFC" editions with fake PFC, so no need for a real connector!

At least it didn't have a 2 transistor 5vsb, but yeah, everything else about this PSU is total junk.
I love putting bad caps and flat batteries in fire and watching them explode!!

No wonder it doesn't work! You installed the jumper wires backwards

Yes, I forgot to mention there is DM311 for 5vsb. Btw this thing is still being sold here for 20euros...

i'm surprised they spent the money on a fake choke,

i have a psu that said "active pfc" with a choke in it,
and i binned several really crap ones that said "active pfc" and had no pfc at all in them - just the sticker!

            Wow, that's an amazing find!
Why not take it back to the place that sells them and ask what they think about their fine product?

The small toroid coil in the secondary must be fake too. One of its legs is soldered to nowhere:

              https://www.badcaps.net/forum/attach...1&d=1400324885

All the 3 main voltage rails are group regulated with the other toroid coil. Just like the Powertech power supply.

The customer doesn't remember where he bought it. But there are plenty of computer stores that have it for sale right now:

What a wimpy piece of @#$%! 200W max, unless you need a night light. Wimpy heatsinks, small I/P rectifiers, MJE13007-type switch transistors, wimpy O/P inductors and capacitors, 330uF I/P capacitors. 550W? Only if you are armored against shrapnel.

The fake PPFC inductor probably is a way to dispose of scrap sheet metal while charging a few extra Yuan for the P/S.

Power Supplies should be boring: No loud noises, no bright flashes, and no bad smells.

That is a bad one indeed!

Note, it looks like the AC line (if they did the color coding of the wires correctly! - should be black for the line) wire goes to the diodes, whereas the neutral goes to the fuse... BAD!!! bad bad bad bad bad! The electronics could still be live even in the fuse blows!

Edit: Hmm, someone else has a hantol with a fake choke also!

The resistors in front of the big torroid look quite toasty too. Are these load resistors or in series with some ceramic caps (i.e. secondary snubber network)?

I think "WAM" is the noise that the rest of the computer will get when it receives the supposedly 220V output of this thing (see the 3rd post).

The reason I posted the picture of the Schuko plug was in reply to ben7's post.
Maybe I was being a little too vague.

But the thing is that 100% of the powersupplies I have looked at don't have a double prong off switch which AFAIK should be mandatory in all countires with this plug.

Because just as ben7 says the system can be live, and in the case of the Schuko connector it can be live even with the PSU switch in the off position.

That is since the "Live" and "Neutral" can be reversed by plugging in the connector 180deg you can have power coming in on the "neutral", all the way through the PSU and being "stopped" at the powersupply switch.

So if you touch any component in a PSU like this and ground, well let's just hope you have a ground fault detector in your house in case you do something so stupid

No, you were fine. I know exactly what you were talking about which is why I joked that safety is second in Europe. After all, I did live in Eastern Europe when I was a kid, so I'm very familia with these Schuko plugs .

Actually, other than this design "flaw", I like them better than what we have in the US. With the US plugs it's very easy to short out the two prongs on the plug if you accidentally pull it out a little and drop something metal on it. Likewise, it is very easy to touch the Live prong on a US plug while trying to plug it or unplug it. I did that multiple times, but each time I was lucky that I wasn't touching anything else that's grounded and I was sitting on a nice fluffy carpet.

I like the UK plug the best in terms of safety. Earth pin is longer than the other pins and the covers over the wall socket won't open without the earth pin being present (no such thing as an unearthed UK socket, unless it's not wired properly) But they are DAMN painful to tread on!

Here is the cousin to your Hantol power supply. It is the Coolmax I-400. You can see from the pictures that the transformers have the same part numbers, and the primary capacitors are the same brand and value. The difference is that the output circuit is different......not too sure which is worse. The Coolmax has a two transistor 5vsb which is a step down. Wiring is 20AWG. Like a bird......cheap, cheap, cheap...........

I was given this TV from my great uncle. He said it just wouldn't turn on one day out of nowhere, replaced the TV, and gave it to me to possibly fix and use for myself.

Upon bringing it home and plugging it up, it showed a standby light.

I powered it on and without a flashlight, the display showed the "V" but the lighting is very dim, but visible.

The screen seems to blackout and stay black, but with a flashlight I can see the display.

With my Playstation 4 connected via HDMI, and running a game I can hear sound.

Desoldering gun station modified to use a 18 volt @ 20 amp switching power supply

I have wanting to do this project for quite sometime now and I finally found a switching power supply that will work on this desoldering gun station ZD-915 that the original switching power supply took a shit and just was not worth trying to fix it because this switching power is not quite big enough to handle the heater element and the vacuum pump

One note when I tested the switching power supply and the voltage control board I noticed that this desoldering gun heat up much faster than the original switching power supply which I was really surprised by to the point that I might buy...

I have been working on this concept for quite some time now with limited success but recently I found a switching power supply that is setup for the voltage that this soldering station needs to operate at however it also needs part of the secondary circuit from the original switching power because you need several voltage rails

I once tried to get a ZD-915 desoldering station to work on a 18 volt battery power supply but unfortunately things did not go well but I did find a work around but I might try this idea again but going at a little differently more about this another time...

Hi all, I just need to know that, can i use SMPS type power supply to test and short circuit detection on a laptop motherboard?
I saw 95% of repair guys are using only Linear bench power supply. linear bench power supply is pricy, thats why i planned to get one SMPS supply.

i know that in linear power supply the noise will be very low comparing to SMPS supply....

Definitive technology SC 2000 subwoofer amp's power supply clicking and popping
                                          by JimBanville
The sub developed a constant popping every couple seconds from woofer and power LED flickering with nothing but wall AC connected. Connecting an audio cable didn't change anything. It doesn't play but a second or two of audio in between the pops.
Opened it up and discovered the power supply is making a faint clicking or ticking sound.
I measured the amp's output to the woofer and it pulses up to 50mv DC to be driver. The pulses coincide with the power supply ticking/clicking.
I measured the power supply output going to the amp board and it too has this pulsing. Voltage cycles...
