    Channel Well Power Plus series

    I noticed these new psu's from Channel Well awhile back and haven't been able to find any information on them other than a very short blurb that used to be in their news or PR section, so I was hoping someone here can provide some info or speculation. From what I gather the A-Live units have an air ionizer built in. Not quite sure what to think of this other than if i recall the 1970's correctly (highly doubtful that) those things work best in a pyramid shaped case. ;-)

    It's the Ice-cube units I'm curious about. If you look at the photos of them you'll see the external heatsink. A small air-cooled peltier perhaps?? Any knowledge or ideas about this and how it's supposed to be effective are appreciated.

      p.s. The blurb on the Ice Cube units was really vague (and I'm not finding it cached). It wasn't clear just what is supposed to be cooled (system or psu?) nor how.

          Where you got the info about ionizer? That Ice cube semms to be either an external hs or some air intake . In any case, as they specified an ambient temperature up to 50°C and stated a MIL standard, those psu`s could be realy good and relibable.
          But an ionizer is a little problematic in pc equipment, as the static elektrizity will be far more greater if the air isn`t that humid. I have build an ionizer, it works with about 40kv at low power. But the static elektrizity increase significantly in the room. Not good for any pc device unpluged.
          And of course, the shape isn`t that important, most comerciall ionicer are using steel wool to have sharp edges and big surface.

              It probably died in pre-production. :p

              The Peltier is actually hot side inside the PSU housing. Cold side down. It's made to improve cooling inside the case. Meanwhile, the PSU is overheating.

              Idea would work if they ran a heatpipe from the hot side inside the PSU housing to a second sink at the back of the unit. Perhaps in front of the PSU's rear exhaust fan. Sort of the way the newer MACS Cooler works.

              But no.... That's not the case.

                  Jonny, assuming it's a peltier (makes sense) then it is a bad design like you said. At least your method wouldn't heat up an already hot psu. Just how this thing is supposed to cool the system escapes me though. One small coldsink located there seems like any cool air coming off it would just be exited out the rear exhaust. But hey it says it'll not only cool the CPU and GPU but make your computer faster too ;-)

                      LOL! I LOVE Engrish!!!!!

                      Yeah... I know a guy that went to CeBit and he touched the CWT Ice-Cube sink and it was ice cold. Touched the PSU housing and it was burning hot. Dumb.

                      I guess they expect you to reverse your rear fan and use the lower front fan for exhaust. Then it'd be like the Sytrin Nextherm case in reverse.

                          Anion idea has merit 99% of pc user is asthmatic headache person. Peltier cooler idea is upgrade benefit to preheat anion to multiply beneficial effect. All ALu component are anodize for our commitment to antioxidant in environment.

                          Sorry, but after reading their marketing strategy, I just had to do that.

                              Idea good however make PSU overwarmed. Good idea to fix a Peltier set to melt air toward out of case.

                              I feel dumber after typing that...
                              You know there's something wrong when you open up a PSU and are glad to find Teapos.
                              Why I don't buy cheap cases!

                                      lol...but i already live in a forest and i've got a headache from trying to calculate my ambient vitamin supply so i can decide if it's worth the upgrade

                                          Hi guys I have a VLP1500 amplifier here - one channels works fine and the other channel distorts even at low volume settings

                                          I need a help with my Marantz pm6005. It started to have weaker the right channel a few months ago, than it got back to normal and now it has lost sound completely on the right channel. At the final stage it was loosing the channel for a while and than it returned. After it has disappeared completely I could forced it back by unplugging the source form CD (which I normally use) to phone and back. It would then work for a few minutes and died again. Now it is possible power up and all function works normally (apart the right channel ) on all inputs, except the phone both channel...
