HEC WinPower Win 550UB any comment on this psu?

I found a review of this here:

    http://www.madshrimps.be/?action=get...16&articID=403

Current selling for $62 shipped seems like a decent psu to me. But what do I know Please make comments gurus. Appreciate your input.

OP, your all over the place in your PSU quest. I have no idea about HEC as they are rare State-side. If you need a unit in this price range, look at the offerings at eWiz.com around this price point. You will find Enermax, Enhance, Fortron and Sparkle all listed. The 550w Sparkle is $74 and that is the cheapest I've ever seen it.

At least they caulked it up real good! Won't have any annoying buzzing or whining noises.
Rest in peace BFG. You were... a job...

i was suprised to see non-pfc in the review model. the catalogue confused me. it appears that the winpower series is available in both non-pfc and active pfc for each wattage. for instance the win550 is available in 550TW-TF (non-pfc) and 550TW-ATF (active pfc). review model says win 550UB????

The price seems reasonable - although I don't have any experience with HEC PSUs myself, and that review isn't much of a review, I'm afraid. It certainly doesn't test the unit in such any way that would verify whether the 550W rating is a realistic one... all those tests could have been carried out on a 300W Fortron, and the results would probably have been the same.

Components appear to be a little undersized for its 550W rating... although without a test at full load, this is just wild speculation on my part.

Output caps appear to be Teapo in that particular reviewed sample. By PSU standards, that's definitely one of the better brands.

PS. The sample in the review is definitely non-PFC, by the looks of it.

And for the record (because I know someone is going to assume this because of the part number) those are NOT made by Wintech.

Galvanized, actually no. I am just curious about this psu as people tend to say HECs are great psus and are well respected in Europe.

I just bought a year old PC Power & Cooling 510 SLI and am waiting on the Supermicro pws-0060 being available at buy.com. They had it for sale at $108 with free shipping.

Thanks guys for the posts. Truly appreciate it.

Your year old PCP&C 510 just might be the older type with the outrageous output 80mm fan. It is beyond server class for noise If it is, PCP&C will rework it for a real deal, thermally controlled fan that will be livable in a desktop application. Shipping to Oceanside,Ca. might be $18 round trip, probably less. I think they will do it for no charge but you have to ask.

If it's the loud job, call thier 800 number.

Oh the guy I bought it from, lives in San diego and stopped by PC power and coolings office and got the delta replaced with a less noisy nidec fan. That should make is quieter shouldn't it?

Hold on there. Delta does not make just uber-output fans you know. Nidec is a proper brand for internal use, like inside a SMPS. They did not just change out the fan, they added circuity for thermally controlling that fan. The thermistor for it is probably bonded into the far side of the primary heat sink. The bonding agent is probably epoxy TIM. The 510 will hold 34A @ 12V at 50oC=VG unit but not very efficient and cost new >$200USD. YIKES!!

Be happy, power freak. I hope you get to use it all
