I have a Dell Precision T7610, 2 Xeon 2650 v2, 128Gb of ram, MB NK70N. Bought off of ebay in December and shipped with 1 processor and 64 gb of ram. I recently filled the other side of the board with processor #2 and 64 more Gb of ram. There are two gpu's, Nvidia K420 for video and Nvidia P40 for accelerated graphics. I have shelled out my entire budget on electronics tools and building this ‘homelab' computer. I do not have the money to buy another motherboard at this time, otherwise I would!
The motherboard that shipped with the computer needed replacement as socket #2 wasn't...

Re: Owners of X1 Extreme Gen 2 w/ i9 Processor I Need BIOS Dump
Another observation, I just noticed today that the bios.bin I supplied earlier from post #21 is for a Thinkpad P1 Gen 2 18809-1 with a Winbond bios chip W25Q256FV. I have a MXIC 25L25673G bios chip. The N2OET36W ME_CLEAN is based on that bios backup from the W25Q256FV. I think this explains why the motherboard remains 'dead' as the EC information is stored in the BIOS firmware and I have been unable to find a compatible binary dump.
If anyone finds a X1 Extreme Gen 2 bios dump from a MXIC...

Re: Owners of X1 Extreme Gen 2 w/ i9 Processor I Need BIOS Dump
Thank you for this. I tried both repaired TB FW and zeroed TB FW but unfortunately it wasn't enough to convince the board to turn on.
There's a third EEPROM chip on the board just below the left hand side fan and just above the BIOS chip. This third EEPROM is a Winbond W25Q80EW 1.8v. I stuck a 1.8v adapter on the programmer and read the chip, it's zero filled but not by me. Not sure what that one does, my guess was maybe gpu? This chip does not get power when I press the power on button,...Last edited by SMDFlea; 10-29-2022, 11:29 AM. Reason: removed schematic.Bios requests only in the bios requests sub forum

Re: Did I Screw Up? Any Hope for Success? Programming BIOS CHIP
It may not be beyond my potential skill set, but it is definitely beyond my current skill set lol. It's not dire that I fix this laptop, but I figured it's worth exhausting all reasonable options before putting it away.
I couldn't figure out where the EC itself is located. I looked on top and underneath the motherboard but couldn't find a NUVTON NPCX897K. I did locate the JTAG points, so that's good.
I'm just about ready to hang my hat up on this one. Thank you for...

Re: Did I Screw Up? Any Hope for Success? Programming BIOS CHIP
Reformatt,
I don't have a multimeter, but I should. I found out something interesting by observing my programmer while it is connected to the EEPROM chip. I connected the test clip to the BIOS chip before connecting the programmer to a power source (i.e. plugged it in usb port). I had the laptop plugged in ac power. I could see that the 'dead' laptop was sending power back to the programmer. When I clipped it in, while still being unplugged from a usb port, the little red power light lit...

Re: Owners of X1 Extreme Gen 2 w/ i9 Processor I Need BIOS Dump
Here's another dump, not from Vinafix but I believe from the same website that I found the schematic and boardview from. I put up another request on Vinafix to see if I can get any other dumps.
I had posted on Vinafix about a week ago, I tried the BIOS ThienBui sent me but it didn't work. Maybe it needed a clear ME?...

Re: Did I Screw Up? Any Hope for Success? Programming BIOS CHIP
I am at the point where I am realizing this is the problem. https://github.com/flashrom/flashrom#readme Flashrom's readme states "Do not use flashrom on laptops (yet)! The embedded controller (EC) present in
many laptops might interact badly with any attempts to communicate with the
flash chip and may brick your laptop." I believe this is what has caused the problem, as the symptoms point to this.Re: Did I Screw...

Re: Owners of X1 Extreme Gen 2 w/ i9 Processor I Need BIOS Dump
Thank you for this. I think there may be a problem with the embedded controller on the laptop.
https://github.com/flashrom/flashrom
On flashrom's github page there is a warning "Do not use flashrom on laptops (yet)! The embedded controller (EC) present in many laptops might interact badly with any attempts to communicate with the flash chip and may brick your laptop."
The trouble is, after Erase/Write/Verify...

Re: Owners of X1 Extreme Gen 2 w/ i9 Processor I Need BIOS Dump
Okay, thank you for your help. I am going to leave some information here for other people to benefit from. I found this process from another helpful person on youtube. Re: Owners of X1 Extreme Gen 2 w/ i9 Processor I Need BIOS Dump
I was given these files from a repair website. My motherboard code is 18809-2 and the .bin file here has code 18809-1.
I'm not sure that it will work but I will try it anyway. Is there anything I need to do to prepare the file before writing it to my BIOS chip? Any kind of unique identifiers specific to my board that needs to be included such as MAC address?...

This is an image of the motherboard from a repair website. As far as I can tell there is only one BIOS chip soldered to the board, you can see it in the image near the Wi-Fi board. Some Lenovos have 2 others have one.

Re: Owners of X1 Extreme Gen 2 w/ i9 Processor I Need BIOS Dump
I am having trouble uploading so here are two reads of the BIOS chip. I compared them with software and they are identical.
