    Optoma Hd146x with bad powersupply

    Hi
I am repairing a Optoma HD beamer with a bad powersupply. It has a blown 6.3A fuse and a burned coil in the mains line.
Any ideas where to get a filter like that? I am little surprised that the mains is directly connected to both lines on the coil. One wire has a bit of more isolation (light color) but still both mainlines are really close together like this. It seems to me this is asking for trouble. I mean i have seen them with seperate sides but never like this. Maybe rewire? Any advice?

its a filter, you can replace it with a couple of jump wires to test the psu
and you should because something feels wrong about that filter burning unless too much current went through it

Just unwind it a half of a turn and solder it back on. Done. A half of a winding or even a whole turn doesn’t matter much. I try to cut only that much than I really have to. Just make sure that not more isn’t wrong with the PSU like a shorted mosfet in the primary.

Replaced the filter with two wires and it works again.

Luckily nothing else damaged. I guess the wire may have been damaged at production.

A lighting strike nearby can do that. I’ve seen this a few times. For me I would just have unwound a half of a turn or a whole turn and stuck that filter back in its place.
