I've been researching how to dump the BIOS from a Dell 5420. This Youtube video shows the exact model and uses the same chip (W25R256JVEN) as the one I am trying to read. However, I have a few questions before I proceed.
I do not have the funds for a decent hot air station setup, so I will need to read the chip directly on the board. I planned on using a CH341A programmer and the ASProgrammer software. Is this reader and software appropriate?
I did realize that the CH341A programmer package linked above uses a SOIC8 clip but since the chip package is WSON8, I will need this probe attachment in 8x6. I plan to do three full dumps and compare the checksums to hopefully ensure a good dump.
In ASProgrammer I found the chip "W25R256JV" which I assume will work for the W25R256JVEN variant. The data sheet says that it is 3V and ASPRogrammer did not denote 1.8V like it does for other chips. Is that correct? Does it matter that the chip in ASProgrammer doesn't end in "EN"?
I appreciate any help you can give and I realize I'm asking a lot of questions. 🙂

by BowlineMy question pertains to understanding the control circuity inside a Dell PT434 type battery used in Dell E6400, E6410 and other Dell notebooks?
Does anyone have a circuit diagram for the inside of a Dell PT434 battery and/or a description of how the control lines work to control this battery?
My reason for asking is I have a battery which I cannot get to charge beyond 1% in a Dell E6410 or E6400.
The LED bar graph charge indicator on the battery shows one LED lighted when the info button is pressed.
I have tried multiple different Dell power adapters. My Dell... -

by al_b0sniHey, i bought a Dell Optiplex 5000 8fc8 with chip W25Q128JVSN.
I also used the CH341A programmer but my usb cable (i didnt attach it directly into the pc, i used a cable between) was corrupted. So i made a dump. Then i removed the password but unfortunately the dump had a loose contact so it was corrupted. And i've also overwrited the chip and now i dont have any dump anymore.
Can someone help me? I am stuck since hours and i cannot find any bin file anywhere.
I tried to extract the EXE for BIOS installation from dell and also the rcv file but i didn't manage to do that....-

by zeniusHello, I have an old Dell G3 3579 (ST: 2WQ7LP2-8FC8) with a newer 8FC8 BIOS password. I have successfully attached to the flash chip (W25Q128JVSQ) on the motherboard with a CH341A programmer and made several modifications using Intel FIT (e.g., allow software SPI write) without bricking. I was also able to boot to a modified GRUB shell where I attempted to edit many BIOS security related options like BIOS Guard/Lock, Flash Signature Override, ME FW Image Re-Flash, etc.
Unfortunately, some of these modifications like to Intel BIOS Guard failed because it is fused into the PCH. Also,...-
