Hi All,

I have a HP 440 G10 with a bios admin passsword which I would like to remove. I have tried the rex98 files in post 43 (both main and EC) but after install all I see is a flashing caps lock (no image, nothing else). I have also tried just the BIOS (reverting EC back to the original) but this also does not work.

Please could someone help me remove the Bios admin password? I have posted the original backups below:

Serial - 5CD40132ZTF
Prod - 717Q4AV
Model - HP Probook 440 G10

rex98 files should work, try again and check soldering. You have to wait 3-5 minutes until you'll get image, it will make a bios update (downgrade, infact) and then enter in mpm. Press F10 and reset bios factory defaults then use BCU to write your DMI.

volinakis - thank you very much. My soldering was excellent... however, my patience was terrible 😁 I waited longer this time and after 3 minutes, the files worked like a charm!

I'm following this thread with interest because I bought one of their PCs, an HP 440 G10, from a company. Unfortunately, it's neither formatted nor accessible (it has a Windows password and a BIOS password).
I'm stuck: while disassembling and reassembling PCs isn't an issue for me, soldering is a major obstacle. I paid €250 for this computer, and I'm quite disappointed at the thought of having lost that money.
I've seen methods online talking about short-circuiting the chip with tweezers or similar, by choosing the right pins. However, I have no idea how to identify the correct ones. Do you know?
Are there any solder-free solutions to resolve this problem? Or should I just accept that I've lost €250 and my time, and simply throw the PC away?

Je me retrouve bloqué : si démonter et remonter des PC ne me pose aucun problème, la soudure est un obstacle majeur pour moi. J'ai payé cet ordinateur 250 €, et je suis assez déçu à l'idée d'avoir perdu cette somme.
J'ai vu sur internet des méthodes parlant de court-circuiter la puce avec une pince à épiler ou autre, en choisissant les bonnes bornes. Cependant, je ne sais pas du tout comment identifier les bonnes bornes. Sauriez-vous me renseigner ?
Existe-t-il des solutions sans soudure pour résoudre ce problème ? Ou dois-je me résigner à avoir perdu 250 € et du temps, et simplement jeter le PC ?

do not use the clip, you may have errors..if you do not have anything to unsolder it with,
solder wires between the programmer and the bios chip..

do not use the clip, you may have errors..if you do not have anything to unsolder it with,
solder wires between the programmer and the bios chip..

What version(s) of the BIOS still only require the main "SPI ROM" to be patched rather than both chips and how would I determine whether my BIOS is that version?

Also how do you guys go about unlocking these BIOSs, is there a tool that you use? I've noticed that it's mostly just switching 0x3F to 0x3C in the .bin files however the newer versions seem to require more work...

I was able to get ahold of a friend's CH341 programmer, which comes with an SOIC8 clip. However, I doubt the clip will work well for reading a chip that is soldered directly onto the motherboard.
On my HP 440 G10 laptop, the BIOS chip is a W25Q256JVEN. The issue is that in the ASProgrammer software, it only offers the following part numbers: W25Q256JV-IM-JM and W25Q256JV-IQ-JQ. Therefore, I don't know which one to choose.
I tried reading the chip with the clip anyway, testing both options, but the program only returns "FFs". I'm assuming this is due to a bad connection from the clip.
My question is this: even after I desolder the chip, which part number should I select in ASProgrammer? Do you think I should use different software?
Finally, before flashing the .bin files from rex98 , I want to make sure I don't make any mistakes. Is there a specific order I need to follow for flashing the different files?

The issue isn't the software. No matter what I do, the chip is "unknown". If I manually select the reference wb25q256jv and try to read it, I get an error message saying the memory doesn't match. The actual reference is wb25q256jven, but it's nowhere to be found.
With Neo Programmer, it's the same thing. When I run the automatic detection, it does find something: AT24C01_7bits (ATMEL) and X24C01_7bits (XICOR). I still try to initiate a read, the software indicates it's a success, but in reality, nothing is read.
