Is a programmer needed for this operation to upload a new Bios?

The "bios backup" is still in your machine.
You need an SPI programmer to get it out.

                      Hi Sir,

I am afraid I do not have the skill to extract the content from the bios.
I went as far as opening up the cover and disconnect the main battery and the cmos battery.
But after putting everyhing back again, the ESC - Ctrl - Num lock lights are lighted but the screen remain dark.

                      Thank you

                        Hi Peste (again)

I misunderstood that I needed to unsolder the bios chip and place it into a gadget to reprogram it.
It seems that I can use a wired clip instead ...

Let me dig around more on the forum, please bare with me .. 60s boomer here; but i'm willing to learn if u can guide.

                        Thank you

                                15alc05.zipHi Sir (again) !

I managed to order a CH341a (green gadet with the voltage selector switch at 3.3v) ... the bios chip on the Ideapad5 15ALC05 is a Winbond 74M12JWS1Q .. but on ASProgrammer 2.1.0 it is not listed .. I used W25Q128JV (taken from one of the posts earlier) .. this is the 1st time im doing this , so im not sure if thats the .bin you require ... i can redo again as needed.

                                Thank you

nope, your backup is not good. Check contacts and let NeoProgrammer to autodetect chipset, even is not listed it should detect ID (i.e EF4018). Do more readings and compare them, when you have 2 identical it means you have a good backup.
