Re: Lenovo FE590 charging issue with RTS 5455

Try a bios upgrade. This PD controller shows connections over SMBUS (I2C) for firmware programming so it is very possible that a bios flashing will also upload a proper firmware for the power delivery controller.

    Post your updates.

This vendor offers the chip but there are others on Aliexpress (at least one claims to be compatible with your target machine's firmware):

Using a PD bus analyzer you can monitor the dataflow between the power delivery adapter and power delivery sink (the side that consumes the current = your logic board).

Based on this PD log, you can view which contract is being selected by the PD controller under investigation. PD analyzer tools have dropped in costs over the years. We have a few different ones in the building but Cypress (aka Infineon); Total Phase; ST offer fairly inexpensive tools for such a review. This will at least give a visual on the packets being exchanged by the power delivery components.

good day, I am updating the bios but the update of the ec does not take place, even if I use a bios with ec 1.12 1.13 my ec is still 1.11 while the main bios is always flashed. Laptop don't detect the power usb and must update with the -sp parameter
Has anyone solved this problem? my laptop is E15 gen.1 nm-c421 rts5455 changed
When laptop is power off power cable is 5V 30mA when power on from battery -> voltage drop to zero, meter shutdown, thank you for help

AS I REMEMBER IF YOU ARE USING NEW IC UNFLSHED THEN YOU CAN USE IT ON ANY COMPATIABLE MOTHERBOARD
JUST BECASE I HAVE READ SOME IT ALOWS ONLY ONE TIME PROGRAMMING.
I HAVE USED THIS IC SO MANY TIMES ON DIFFERENT MOTHERBOARDS WHEN ISWAP THE IC FROM SAME MOTHERBOARD IT WORKS EVERY TIME BUT USING ON DIFFRENT MOTHERBOARD
MOSTLY IT DOSE NOT WORK AND KEEPS ALWAYS 5V I TRIED ALSO BIOS UPDATE ALSO ETC BUT SAME.

is your caps lock stuck on - you should ask for a solution to this?

checked D12501, reading starts from around 0.9v and stop around1.116v, reverse red and black prob, the reading is around 1.673v. does this mean this diode is bad?

Finally.. on eBay i found a Guy from China theat kan prepare you the RTS5450/5 with the FW you need and it works.
Check all componnents arround the Chip before installing and put a thermalpad on it.
Look on eBay for Username: technology20236
                    Good luck!

Reflash BIOS, that will do the trick.
BY reflash, do you mean using bios update utility when laptop is booted into. windows, or using rt809f programmer to flash it?

Yepp, charge the battery externaly, if you don't have appropriate external charger, use voltage and amperage as adviced on battery, ussualy in lenovo and asus batteries you activate BMS of battery by shorting plus and minus for milisec, and it starts to charge, done it myself doesn of times, works.

And for the Realtek IC, after you charge battery REFLASH a new BIOS to the motherboard, it should also reprogram the IC power controler.
How do you flash the bios when it can't see the adapter? I tried command -sp after winuptp.exe from prompt in windows, but it says can't find flash module. Can't get past adapter error

Hi I did exactly the same, laptop is working, but in device manager (code 43 for USB-C), charging works normally, but if I disconnect charger, in windows still shows like still connected. I tried to flash newest BIOS, but still the same.

Carefully...measure the voltage to ground of the VBUS pin #1 on the charger IC @ PU101.

You should have a voltage here only when the power adapter is connected. No voltage if operating from battery. Confirm this detail. Otherwise, PQ102 may be leaking.

You can test if PQ102 is leaking by checking the resistance across this dual mosfet. Remove all power / no battery. Meter in resistance mode.

                              Measure the resistance of:

                              source / drain
                              source / gate
                              gate / drain

Each should be hundreds of K ohms or higher else is defective.

Updating the BIOS didn't help me flash the RTS5455 firmware, so I started looking for information on flashing this chip directly. I came across the channel "Alexlaptoprepair". As it turned out, he developed his own adapter for this chip to be able to flash it via Svod or Vertyanov. He kindly shared the firmware for the RTS5455 on an NM-B911 board. So, if anyone's interested, I can share the firmware — maybe someone will come up with an idea on how to flash this chip directly via SMBus.

For the record, I don't have a high volume of orders involving this chip, so it doesn't make sense for me to buy a Svod4 or a Vertyanov programmer. All I have is a CP2112 — a bridge for data transfer from USB to SMBus — and I tried writing a small script to upload the data, but without success.

Firmware is helpful but additional support for the target registers are required to R/W/E the firmware. Only then can you send the same commands to upload the firmware. The other mentioned tools must have this knowledge. Often you can use logic analyzers to snoop on the data traffic between the pieces of equipment to learn about the communication details such as I2C / SMBUS / SPI / MIPI CSI / MIPI DSI, etc.
