Lenovo FE590 charging issue with RTS 5455

I would like ask question about RTS5455 Power Delivery Chip in Lenovo MB FE590 rev 1.0 or 2.0.
Laptop wasn't charging, but everything else worked. Got the schematic diagram, and found faulty RTS5455, short on LDO 3.3V Out.

I ordered first RTS5455 (Marked on chip GH47AA) from Chine. I replaced and Power Delivery start cycling 5V from USBC Charger.

Did more investigate, found nothing wrong but I found other guy complaining about China RTS5455 that after replacing the chip he got same problem as I did.

So in hope I order RTS 5455 from different supplier, hopping for other series (not GH47AA)... but guess what , same chip arrive and same problem-cycling 5V from USBC.

So I found spare bad FE590 Motherboard and used that chip and original MB started to work.

My question is...Is it bad batch of RTS5455 or the RTS5455 needs to be programmed (I didn't find any information about that-proprietary) .

Any answer will be welcomed... Thank you

Hi. Can you post the schematic for this logic board ?

When you removed the IC off the donor board, did you replace only this controller?

What are the markings on the IC that worked for your case ?

Found, so far, the attached datasheet that is close to this PD controller.

      Hi ,
So original RTS5455 was marked GI51AA.
One from donor PCB I just guessing full number as the laptop is assembled, but from picture looks like KJ13AA.
      Bad one/Empty one/non working is GH47AA

Realtek RTS5450 (and probably RTS5455 too) has integrated MCU with internal flash.
The flash can be programmed through I2C but the protocol is not published...

Anyone have any experience how to program this chip ?
Failure of this chip is becoming a common issue lately with newer thinkpads.

Yepp, charge the battery externaly, if you don't have appropriate external charger, use voltage and amperage as adviced on battery, ussualy in lenovo and asus batteries you activate BMS of battery by shorting plus and minus for milisec, and it starts to charge, done it myself doesn of times, works.

And for the Realtek IC, after you charge battery REFLASH a new BIOS to the motherboard, it should also reprogram the IC power controler.

Reflash BIOS, that will do the trick.

I want to clarify something, the main cause for the faliure of thesse ICs is poor flash protection and overheating, the solution is replacing thesse ICs, and after that BIOS of the motherboard should be reflashed if you use new part not the donor one from the same or simillar motherboard. That should be permanent solution, and adding nonconductive thermal pad over it, and some aluminum tape on the opposite side on the laptop case, so that it could release the exess of heat.

                        Sounds reasonable
I will update if I come across to this problem again.

btw. this method does NOT seem to work with a thinkpad e14/e15 nm-c421 20rd... or i ordered fake chips...

Guys anyone can help for E15 nm-c421 usb typec chip RTS5455? Chip was bad and was givving only 5v to board. Changed with a chip that is supposed to be programmed from AliExpress for nm-c421, and it started to give 9v, but still not 20v. Anyone know how to fix this chip?

Are you using the original and recommended power adapter? Does you battery have enough charge to power the laptop at this time?
