i'm not using this programmer, but the ufpi (best on the market in my opinion). timing is important. in this case you need to read the chip id just BEFORE plugging in the power cord (bat disconnected)! maybe it helps......Leave a comment:

check the two pull-up resistors in between the lines, maybe one is faulty. normally they measure the same (datasheet says 10k).Leave a comment:
