Acer z5wah la-b161p - What causes dead touchpad?

I have two of these devices here. The first had been working without any issues and the second came with a dead touchpad. To figure out if there is a problem with the board or with the touchpad itself I cross swapped the keyboard/touchpad unit on both devices and none of the touchpads worked. Unfortunately, aber swapping back the keyboard/touchpad unit the touchpads on both devices failed (also tested with Ubuntu).

There are no fuses on the board and I could not see any damage under the microscope. I get the 3V_PTP on the U2507 (p28). How would you diagnosed this issue?

Confirm the voltages on the I2C (SMBUS) lines:

    TP_DATA_TP
    TP_CLK_TP

Also, post the voltages you see on JTP1 connector.

Bro before touching mainboard try to reinstall first instal chipset driver then the Correct touchpad driver (Install all 3) and after the serial IO driver .

Restart to bios than go to touchpad settings change it to Basic F10 and exit.
Restart Again to bios than chose touchpad settings to advanced.F10 Exit

Restart to windows Press Fn+F7 and maybe it works Again.

It is worth a try i had it done many times.

          acer vn7-791g - 14203-1m - wistron - touchpad dead

          hello guys,

i have an acer vn7-791G machine here. the touchpad died (controller shorted out - synaptics). i ordered a new touchpad, which should work fine though. but the problem is, that this clickpad is working neither. i measured the voltages on the connector tp1 and found out that the ec_tpclk signal is missing (no 3.3 V here). i replaced the kbc but no luck... resistors are working fine. tp_in_r goes low when tp is connected an stays high if no touchpad is present. already tried different flex cable (but orignal one is working fine).

          HP 17-BY0132NF Touchpad dead
          by sect-sin
          Hi all,

I have a problem with a HP 17-BY0132NF Notebook (motherboard marking SNAPE-6050A2982701-MB-A01(A1)). After repair and subsequent Windows 10 install, the system was extremely slow. Nevertheless I managed to download all drivers from the HP support page (which correctly identiefed the notebook as 17-BY0132NF), and I also installed a BIOS update. The original BIOS revision was F9, and I updated it to F64, the most recent available version.

This fixed the speed issue immediately, but the Touchpad stopped working. I tried every possible software solution (tried...

How can I be sure that my EC chip is dead?
          by double_DD
          Hi all,

As the title suggests, how can I be sure that my EC chip is really dead?

I've recently gotten into this hobby of laptop repairs, and have successfully brought back to life a couple with some easy fixes, mostly shorted caps.

Now I'm working on HP Probook 455 G8, that had some "devil" run around on 3V line, burning a bunch of stuff. Luckily I have a dead 455G7 (for spare parts) so I managed to fix it (swapped burned parts) to a point that it will charge (both on barrel jack and usb-c), but it doesn't want to turn on. There is a 3V3 on a keyboard...

          Asus ROG gl752v dead touchpad
          by Dannyx
Good day folks. Just thought I'd open up this discussion mostly out of curiosity to see if anyone else had this issue on Asus ROG laptops...or any other laptop for that matter.

The problem is the touchpad is completely dead and I'm suspecting it's a hardware failure: it's not showing up in Device Manager in any way, it doesn't work under Hirens and no amount of restarts and driver reinstalls got it going again. The touchpad has a 4 pin ribbon connector, so I think it's an I2C connection (SDA,SCL,GND,VCC). The ribbon cable looks fine (though this could be misleading and it could...
