lenovo y50-70 VIN mosfets gets hot & possible short

looking help on lenovo y50-70 mboard: la-b111p zivy2

laptop had shorted capacitor on B+ battery rail and was dead, CHG_B+ PC305

i replaced cap with same healthy cap and laptop started working, i noticed
input mosfest got hot when i start laptop, but when battery is connected vin mosfets get insanely hot but laptop charges and works with battery

-i can hear small spark sound when charger is connected
something draws lots of current but i cant figure out what component it is
-BATT+ mosfet PQ303 gets also pretty hot but when i charge battery it gets insanely hot and it is next to cap i changed
-PU301 battery charge ic is not getting hot
-also pch gets warm / sometimes hot
-PL302 CHG measuring 88 kohm to ground

Laptop should not be used as a micro furnace.

    Remove all power.

    Meter in resistance mode.

Check the resistance for each mosfet as follows:

    Source and drain
    Source and gate
    Gate and drain

    Post the values.

Checking for low resistance = shorted mosfet.

replace mosfet. its burned and have higher resistance. your vin voltage should be lower because of it

Maybe but may not be also. Lets wait for the measurements. Heating up could be for other reasons as well.

mosfets get insanely hot even laptop is off and i charge battery only

Take PQ301/302/303 out of circuit and measure resistance between

            Pin1 to pin4
            Pin4 to pin5
            pin1 to pin5

Repeat the same on pcb after removing the mosfets and draw your own conclusion.

No, there is huge difference in pulsed drain current. 4433 Will instantly burn out.

                    Lenovo B50-70 LA-B092P REV 2.0 - short on +3VLP
                    by kotel studios
                    Hi,

My lenovo B50-70 laptop (mainboard compal LA-B092P VER 2.0) had a short on the +3V generation part (where PU401 is).
I've removed the SY8208BQNC and the short is gone on PL402. Although, it's still there on pin 5 "LDO" of the SY8208BQNC (1.8ohms to GND).
All other coils aren't shorted to GND.

Removing the PC412 cap didn't help. Mainboard pads are still shorted. Cap itself is fine.
Pin 20 (+3VLP) of ALC codec isn't shorted too, so it shouldn't be the issue.

Originally, the laptop wouldn't power on. It would get its 20V on the...

For Badcaps Readers, Please note that I am hopefully going to present this same message to Lenovo to see if they have any insight to the matter as well and figured to share the entirety here for clarification. The System is out of warranty as it is but does have the option to have it extended.

Lenovo Legion 5 15ACH6H with possible short on +3VL.
                    by SarcasticOP
                    Hello!

I am working on a Lenovo Legion 5 15ACH6H that will not take power when connected to the charger and will not turn on. The device was left in a car overnight when it got cold outside and no longer powers on. Inside the device was relatively clean and dust-free, and it did not have any immediate signs of liquid damage.

The boardview files are available over at https://www.badcaps.net/forum/troubl...h-boot-problem. I am not sure of the etiquette...

Need help pinpointing my short on this board (Lenovo) NM-D351
                    by survivalbloke
This is a Lenovo Thinkpad P15s Gen 2 with a board NM-D351. I'm having trouble finding my dead short to ground. I have the area narrowed down after much probing. You'll see in the boardview, there are two coils involved. I removed those coils and verified that that short is not on the mosfet side of those coils. . You'll see an arrangement on both sides of the board of 5 caps and one smaller one to the side. I have removed ALL 12 of these small caps and still have the short. Prior to that I injected at those caps with 1v5a and the short was only drawing 800ma so I could not see anything on thermal....

                    Lenovo Thinkpad E15 G1 Gen 1 Short
                    by cheebster
Hello Badcaps, got a Lenovo Thinkpad E15 G1 Gen 1 NM-C421 with a short i've found on a mosfet. When plugging the USB-C meter, it cycles 20V-off-20v-off. On mosfet PQ1102 i see a short a 12ohm to gnd resistance. Removed the mosfet, measuring on the board gives same result. Checking on a previous post i saw this schematic picture, but not sure if what i'm seeing is normal and what would be the proper tests to do from here. Not an expert by any means by trying to learn. Thanks...
