    HP DV6 issue ?

    Dear Members,

I have issue with HP DV6,
When I pressed on, Fan and LED run for few seconds and then off,
What could be the issue? Is it capacitors ?

I checked some tantalum caps on it, mostly on 12 ohms value / short.
Anyone has the schematic of this board ?

            thanks for the schematic ..

Could be MOSFET near CPU ? PQ45,PQ51,PQ44,PQ53, since then I measure 330u caps, it's 12 ohms...?

            Thanks

                Re: HP DV6 issue ?

In the presence of an immediate shut off (without a loop, on -off-on), if we exclude a problem with the bios and / or the firmware of the EC (embedded controller), probably this is caused by the presence of a short on a voltage line that is activated only when the power button is pressed (go to state s0 https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Advanc...ower_Interface). In a motherboard (depend of the architecture) there are some tension that are always present and others that cames only after the power button is pressed.
                Motherboard not powered:
check with multimeter in diode mode the coil of cpu, gpu, etc this test
allows us to know if there is a short (0000 -> bad >0001 seems ok) on a
                main line
                Motherboard ac powered:
check of the tensions that are always present (pag 35 and above) as power line of EC -> U7 , bios tension, etc (also these tensions depend on the architecture, in some cards the bios is powered subsequently...)
If the problem is not identified, a voltage must be injected directly on each line to see if any component heats up. The voltage must be chosen based on the line to be tested.
This is a problem that could be difficult to solve because there are so many components involved.

I dont think 12 ohms is a short on vcore line.

                          Jesse has it right.
It is the GPU, and it most likely will need a bios reprogramming when u re done.
Those things tend to get in protect mode when u rework something on them due to overheating.

Might be possible to convert to UMA.

UMA = Unified Memory Architeture , the dedicaded GPU (discrete ) with
his memory isn't present on motherboard, the video card used often shares the chip with the CPU and the memory used is that of the system.

In this case you have a discrete motherboard that must be converted into UMA due to a problem with the graphics card that cannot be easily solved.
The conversion requires less experience and specific equipment than the replacement of the graphics chip.

to get an idea but I don't know if the video is error free

there are many changes to make before the ones you say, did you do them?
                                        for example:
pg 3 -> remove Rb remove Rc Add Ra
pg 5 -> Add Rd Add Re Add Rc
                                        pg 6 -> Add R77
                                        and so on

Open schematic and search for UMA, then make a comparison between discrete and uma, make the changes you see

I check PPBUS_AON and there is a short present on the line, the computer shows a short when testing for short to ground, so when I inject voltage into the line, I get 0AMPS so no short is showing up. I have replaced a blown cap on this board that exploded and tested for the short and it is now removed. Any suggestions? I tested voltage at the line when the fuses are connected and I am getting 1.2 Volts at the line.

It powers on OK and has no other issues except the following:
                                          • CAPS LOCK does not work at all
                                          • Fn button toggles Flight Mode
                                          • When I press 't' or '5', it produces 't5', and when I press 'y' or '6', it produces 'y6'
                                          • (with SHIFT pressed: 't%' and 'y^' respectively)
I initially thought it was a keyboard malfunction (internal short, etc.),
but when I press and hold...

                                          Hi everyone,

I'm working on a MacBook Air 2020 (A2337, board 820-02016) and running into a strange USB-C issue. I've gone through quite a bit of testing and part replacement, but I'm stuck — hoping someone here can shed some light.

                                          🛠 Original Issue
                                          The machine initially wouldn't negotiate 20V over USB-C — stuck at 5V.
Diagnosis showed PP1V5_UPC0_LDO_CORE shorted to ground.

I replaced U3100 (UF400) using a donor board (A2179), and the machine powers on fine now.

Help me find the short circuit on this WORKING Nvidia GTX1650

                                          Hi all,

Recently picked up this GTX1650 at a local flea market for a low price and wanted to use it on my secondary PC. I first tested the card and saw the fan spin for a split second and then nothing. Immediately I thought of a short circuit. Disassembled and found a shorted SMD capacitor, injected voltage into it (1V/4A) and two Mosfets got hot immediately (QN3103 & QN3107). Desoldered these Mosfets and the card turned back to life.

Bought replacements from Aliexpress and replaced them afterwards. Tried the card but still the saw the fan spin for a split second...

                                          GTX480 short/vCore issue

                                          Hi all,

I have a weird issue with a GTX480 I am repairing for fun.

Originally it would crash Windows when drivers were being installed. I checked with MATS and found a faulty RAM IC. I replaced it, MATS is happy but still the installation fails to install the driver - but no more BSOD.

While testing I found something weird.

What I think is the VCORE, is completely shorted. I read 0.4 Ohm to ground. I'm aware that low resistance is normal around a GPU but I don't think 0.4 is ok?

If I check the inductors and all the mosfets,...
