have you changed any Bios option recently or updated the Bios recently?
remove the main battery and let the problem occur again. Then, check whether all voltage rails are present or not.

        Re: HP EliteBook 850 G1

        Tried new CMOS battery.
        Tried without HDD.
        Updated BIOS to newest.
        Tried with only power adapter.

I don't think any rails apart from cmos sram will be powered from cmos battery.
I just don't get why cmos has to be cleared for it to turn on.

unless on power off it enters some weird state.

It is possible that a bad Bios update has caused such a problem. Or, it is also possible that some component on the Bios circuit has got faulty. Or, it is also possible that SIO or PCH manipulates Bios content due to a faulty operation.

            Re: HP EliteBook 850 G1

If you have schematic, then look at kbc page and findout the switching pin and check whether you have 3v there. If 3v is present, try directly switching from that kbc pin by shorting it to gnd. That will rule out any bad circuit or traces in between kbc and power switch.

Btw, if schematic not avlbl, then try to findout another schematic with kbc and get the pinout from there.

Updated bios in attempt to correct issue. old bios was from 2015.

I was initially thinking windows was putting pc in a odd power state but eliminated that theory by using shutdown feature in bios.

                  Re: HP EliteBook 850 G1

Well i set bios to power on machine at a specific time and it did.
                  I found a schematic.
                  I have found,

                  Power button
                  Lid Switch
                  Power LED

                  All don't work.

Page 62 of HP ElitBook_840_G1_6050A2559101.pdf Is the board.

Seems like P3V3AL_PB is missing from the switch board.

The flat flex may be damaged or unplugged.

I led myself down the wrong path thinking is must be CMOS

Dell E6400 PT434 type Battery Charging Stuck at 1%. Battery Pinouts?
                            by Bowline
My question pertains to understanding the control circuity inside a Dell PT434 type battery used in Dell E6400, E6410 and other Dell notebooks?

Does anyone have a circuit diagram for the inside of a Dell PT434 battery and/or a description of how the control lines work to control this battery?

My reason for asking is I have a battery which I cannot get to charge beyond 1% in a Dell E6410 or E6400.
The LED bar graph charge indicator on the battery shows one LED lighted when the info button is pressed.
I have tried multiple different Dell power adapters. My Dell...

Vostro 3400 (LA-K033P) won't charge battery, everything else ok
                            by techfreak9356
I bought a Vostro 3400 motherboard (LA-K033P) to upgrade over my damaged Inspiron 5593 (LA-J091P) board. Everything else is ok except for the battery. This battery I am using now is already a replacement one since I disposed of the bloated original one. Back in the Inspiron 5593 motherboard, the battery charges fine and is identified just fine. However, with the upgraded motherboard, suddenly the replacement battery is labeled as "Not a dell battery". When I borrow a similar battery from my colleague (which did not have replacements yet), it is identified and charges just fine.

Hi first question posting here, but no need to go easy on me!
I have an HP EliteBook 840 G1 non touchscreen. The symptoms are that: Repairing or reinstalling windows freezes no matter how i try it. Live Ubuntu that works on any other computer also freezes while trying to load it. The RAM sticks and the harddrive work fine in other computers. I broke off the connector by accident, CN4750 and was using the laptop for a while with no coin battery. According to this schematic I found on here, which I THINK is the correct schematic, pins 2, 3, and 4 should short to ground, and they do....

This problem is based on my experience with an ASUS Z390 Prime motherboard, but it appears to affect other motherboards

Return somewhat later and find that battery is drained, dead, or weak. Clock is wrong, other settings lost, etc.

I have a ThinkPad T470 that will not boot when the CMOS battery is plugged in.
With only the fan, a RAM module and a USB-C monitor attached, but no CMOS battery, it starts up normally, i.e. after about 90 seconds and two reboots, it stops with a message to press F1 to enter date & time.
If the power is switched off and a CMOS battery is inserted, it restarts as described above. However, after switching it off and on again, it does not turn on. It draws almost no current and shows no sign of life.
