XPS 13 9370 CMOS battery voltage always low

    Hi Everyone,
I have brought you a mistery item
This laptop have come with some strange faults.
    1. CMOS battery was flat 0v
    Symptoms:
    - After using the laptop and shutting down and removing the AC adapter for at least 1 minute, the laptop never turned on until EC reset (either shorting RTC or removing battery and long pressing power button)
Amp drawing was stuck at 0.005 milliamps.
    - Laptop cannot really be turned off because it autostarts about 5 sec-1 or 2 minute. (lid sw is not the problem)

After inverstigation RTCD1 diode had a low value (2.5) on pin #1 and measuring the diode turned out to be faulty so I have replaced it. and also CMOS battery to new.
Now EC won't freeze anymore after removing the AC adapter BUT...
After some using and turning off and on suddenly the EC resets and shows "CMOS battery failure" 1 white 3 amber LED error. then starts with resetet BIOS.
So I have started measured CMOS battery and its only 2,6v (new CMOS battery drained as hell)
removing CMOS battery revealed that even with main Battery connected the RTCVCC is only 2,55V (RTCD1 output is still 3.12V OK)
After hooking Lab power supply and injecting 3.0V to RTCVCC the board draws 180 milliams !!!! nothing is getting hot and RTCVCC line has a Mohms resistance but something is taking much more power than it should.
I'm thinking since POWER SW is also connected to this line, maybe this is why the laptop autostarts.
Do you have any theory why this is happening?

You can remove the pull-up resistor mated to the power switch and this +RTCVCC rail to investigate if that is a root cause. Each leg of this power rail appears to have a local part that can be temp removed to check if that load is the fault or not.

Confirm the 2 resistors are ok @ RTCR1 and RTCR2.

Both resistors have a good value.

Dell E6400 PT434 type Battery Charging Stuck at 1%. Battery Pinouts?
        by Bowline
My question pertains to understanding the control circuity inside a Dell PT434 type battery used in Dell E6400, E6410 and other Dell notebooks?

Does anyone have a circuit diagram for the inside of a Dell PT434 battery and/or a description of how the control lines work to control this battery?

My reason for asking is I have a battery which I cannot get to charge beyond 1% in a Dell E6410 or E6400.
The LED bar graph charge indicator on the battery shows one LED lighted when the info button is pressed.
I have tried multiple different Dell power adapters. My Dell...

ASUS X571 no power : battery issue?
        by mkdj
        Hello everyone,

        Mark and model: ASUS X571
Symptoms: not turning on. There is only the LED battery indicator working. The owner of the laptop told me this problem arrived one week after having changed the battery. He then managed to power on the laptop only once, and then it never powered on again.

        Tests already made:
        - Battery is charging when laptop is plugged in. The LED battery indicator turns white after a couple of hours of charge, indicating that battery is fully charged. However, laptop won't turn on anyway, with or without AC plug.
        - I have removed...

Vostro 3400 (LA-K033P) won't charge battery, everything else ok
        by techfreak9356
I bought a Vostro 3400 motherboard (LA-K033P) to upgrade over my damaged Inspiron 5593 (LA-J091P) board. Everything else is ok except for the battery. This battery I am using now is already a replacement one since I disposed of the bloated original one. Back in the Inspiron 5593 motherboard, the battery charges fine and is identified just fine. However, with the upgraded motherboard, suddenly the replacement battery is labeled as "Not a dell battery". When I borrow a similar battery from my colleague (which did not have replacements yet), it is identified and charges just fine.

        CMOS battery drains quickly
        by magistertc
This problem is based on my experience with an ASUS Z390 Prime motherboard, but it appears to affect other motherboards
as well Install a new CMOS battery, configure computer, turn off computer and disconnect from AC power or switch off SMPS.
Return somewhat later and find that battery is drained, dead, or weak. Clock is wrong, other settings lost, etc.

Examine the power 'sharing' circuit -- when the ATX 3V supply is on, the computer will function normally. The computer is also
configured to support the RTC and some volatile RAM (when SMPS is on). What you may...

ThinkPad T470 does not power up with CMOS battery attached
        by rumpumpel1
I have a ThinkPad T470 that will not boot when the CMOS battery is plugged in.
With only the fan, a RAM module and a USB-C monitor attached, but no CMOS battery, it starts up normally, i.e. after about 90 seconds and two reboots, it stops with a message to press F1 to enter date & time.
If the power is switched off and a CMOS battery is inserted, it restarts as described above. However, after switching it off and on again, it does not turn on. It draws almost no current and shows no sign of life.
I used a different CMOS battery and checked the components around the battery...
