Hi Everyone.
I have been trying to fix a naughty lenovo laptop.
Laptop come to me as not booting or ginving picture. So I have cleaned the ME on the BIOS and it come to life, but here is the tricky part:
When you turn on with the power button the led-s come on and fan is spinning but after 20 seconds it reboots.
It restarts 4 times before giving picture on BIOS.
+ BIOS battery 3.01v and BIOS is remembering the settings uppon shutdown and restart.
+ battery is fine
When only charger is connected, the laptop instantly consumes 0.030 milliamps and...

Both PCH and CPU is bad. What are the odds?

- I have checked with 3 known good RAM in different slots.
- Inspected all pins on RAM slots.
- checked PCH top capacitors. all have 3.3v or 1.0v
- CPU 1.0v and GPU 0.9v are coming up, but DDR4_DRAMRST still low.

Could be an overheating protection. I would check the heatsink if it is contacting the cpu and GPU properly.Leave a comment:

Looking at the schematics table the Adapter select is only scaled until 200w (3v). since I have an original 280W charger that has 3.2V on AD_ID i was beginging to think maybe a too large charger could make the EC go to protection mode?
Partial sucess. Yes. I have plugged in a 230W charger and the power button turns on the laptop.
Now it turns on and draws 612-705 milliAmps but not do anything. All voltages are present and still 5 long 3 short.
Since DDR4_DRAMRESET is low (0.052v) despite 1.2 volt present, I have read that this could be a problem with BIOS not correct....Leave a comment:

+ Reflashed the original BIOS (08600) with cleaned ME.
+ plugged in the battery (since CMOS battery is not exists on this machine)
+ changed RAM to my known good ram
Laptop started
then I have turned off and repeated it works. OK
but..
Then I have reinstalled both original ram and 5 long 3 short back
after that reinstalled my known good ram...still 5 long 3 short. Tryed to remove battery and charger and holding down power button for1 minute but no luck and now when i try to turn it on it starts some weard loop on random caps flashes then reboot...Leave a comment:

costumer states that laptop worked from battery befor 5 long 3 short LED error code.
inspecting RAM voltages 1.2VDDQ is present and pullup resistor on DRAM_RESET is correct 470 ohms BUT DRAM_RESET has only 0,111 voltage....Leave a comment:

Downloaded BIOS-es from HP website:

This modell has 4 different BIOS that has 16Mb size. I have backed up the current one and its version is "08600" but Since the laptop been in a repair store I cannot trust the BIOS version is correct.
Tryed all 4 of them and only the 08601 is doing different caps lock LED codes on start, every other is giving 5 long 3 short.
08601 starts with the following. symptom:

Brought a normal power adapter, after connecting charger and battery. the laptop turns on when power button pressed, BUT...
I have 5 long 3 short blinking on caps lock.
Now at least the battery charges
Tryed different rams and put it different sticks....no success.
Next step is flash bios with clean me....Leave a comment:

MB Not giving any sign of life and pressing power button does not make the amp draw os PSU change.
