When I press the power button power LED glowing at the same time OFF. The standby voltage ic TPS51123RGER-GP hot and 3D3V_AUX_S5, 5V_AUX_S5 voltages are normal but no 5V_S5 and 3D3V_S5.Last edited by shijeesh; 10-13-2014, 07:09 PM.Comment

If getting hot it may be shorted. What about removing it and checking pads for shorts. If no shorts replace TPS51123. The schematic is available here https://www.badcaps.net/forum/showthread.php?t=28239. Page 41 has the voltages for the various pins with 5V.Comment

If TPS is hot without pressing power button, then check VREG3 and VREG5 for shorts. VREG3 is more likely (EC, BIOS or LAN). If you have lab PSU, then use it.Comment

My n5110 got shorted when I was trying to fix my touchpad while the laptop was on. I accidentally dropped a small screw on the board and it died right away. After inspection i found out that there is no 3.3v_s5 or 5v_s5 but i did have Vreg3 and Vreg5 voltage. I also noticed the whole 3.3v_s5 rail is shorted. I lifted up the mosfets of TPS51123 and TPS51123 itself but still couldn't find the short. Can anyone help me with this stupid short which I can't find?Comment

I think that you might be looking at an ICs short and not at a short in a MOSFET.
I recommend tracing the points that you shorted to the components they are attached to. And testing those if possible.
Can you also post pictures of the shorted area?

This is a control signal to turn on SMPS, without it only the LDO outputs will have voltage. It should be at least 3.3V to turn the SMPS on, the logical low level can be anything reasonable below it. Look for short at VREG3 and VREG5. Have you measured resistance at these points?Comment

I did check other IC's as well but still no luck.
IC's that I checked by lifting them to find a shot are
TPS51311 = 1.8V_S0 (takes 3.3v_S5 as input)
TPS51116 =1.5v
ISL95831= VCC core
Bios
3.3v mosfet
5v mosfet
TPS51123 = only vreg3 and vreg5 voltages. I disconnected the 5v rail and 3.3v rail by lifting up the inductors. No short before the inductor though, I think the IC is gone( it gets hot when i plug the supply).
The capacitor on PCH(HM67) is also showing a short
I feel that HM67 is causing the short and considering removal of PCH (quite expensive here)

There is no short at VREG3 and VREG5. Yesterday I got display but few seconds same problem, again I check this 5V_S5 and 3D3V_S5 is 0.5v only.Comment

Vizio e601i-A3 - Has Sound and Display, But No Backlight - Bad Power Supply Board or Bad LED Bulbs ?I was given this TV from my great uncle. He said it just wouldn't turn on one day out of nowhere, replaced the TV, and gave it to me to possibly fix and use for myself.
Upon bringing it home and plugging it up, it showed a standby light.
I powered it on and without a flashlight, the display showed the "V" but the lighting is very dim, but visible.
The screen seems to blackout and stay black, but with a flashlight I can see the display.
With my Playstation 4 connected via HDMI, and running a game I can hear sound.

I'm trying to troubleshoot a Microsoft Surface Pro (5th gen) model 1796 that won't power on. Motherboard model is M1007506-015. My priority is retrieving data, but the SSD is integrated so it looks like if I can't repair it it'll need to go to a data recovery company. I've done a little basic board repair before, but nothing this advanced until now. So please forgive my ignorance in advance. ๐

I have no idea what Iโm doing, but Iโm learning by trial and error.
Iโm currently working on a Dell Optiplex AIO 7490โone of a bunch of AIOs that mysteriously failed to POST just a few days after the warranty expired. The original issue was that the PC worked fine until it was rebooted, after which it got stuck on a black screen (no backlight), with fans spinning at normal speed and a solid white power LED. When I received this , it would only flicker on the KB backlight for a second, then off and on.
Then it started getting weirder!
Sometimes when attaching the AC power supply, and pressing various pre-boot diagnostic keyboard keys... it did try to boot, in fact out of a hundred attempts, the laptop did actually boot into the Bios ! but never has... -

I've recently gotten my hands on a defective XPS13 9380. I will attach a zip of the schematics and boardview.
My first discovery on the Board was that the reverse current Diode PD103 of the 1st USB-C was blown.
Nothing to worry about, the board got 3 USB-C ports which support Power/Charging. On I go.
Next I inspected the power-rails to see why the diode blew up and found a short on the 3V3 rail which I traced back to the Power-IC for the LCD (UZ2). I desoldered it and the very low-ohmic short is gone. I checked on the LCD-connector that there's no short...
