Acer Aspire 1360 backlight dies, resets by pulling the plug.

I have been trying to find the error with my wife's Acer Aspire 1360.
Laptop can be turned on for hours (sometimes just minutes) and then suddenly the backlight dies, screen still visible there in the darkness.

To solve the problem temporarily I can reseat the inverter plug from the motherboard, a 2x15 pin connector with black, red and green wires (very thin). Not all places are used in the connector, some are empty.

I bought another inverter, including the wire, that didn't solve the problem. I have tried hooking up a CCFL from another screen, same behavior. So neither the tube nor the inverter seems to be the problem. Possibly the newly bought inverter had the exact same problem.
There is no flicker at all, it just dies and only way to get it going again is to either pop and plug the inverter connector (either end works but the one one the motherboard is easiest to reach) or restart the computer.

Is it likely it's caused by software? I have tried shutting off the dim LCD while running from battery. I have the same troubles weather running from battery, running with battery and PSU or just PSU without battery hooked up.
There are no later BIOS updates AFAIK.

Does anyone have any ideas what else to check or measure?
Can I hook up the inverter on my lab workbench without the computer, any idea how?

Do I have to disassemble the laptop completely to check it?

Knocking on strategical places or the whole computer has no effect, either way, it doesn't cause the light to go off nor on.

I was considering an LED upgrade but it's a lot of money to spend on this old computer. Maybe a LED-mod a'la Ben Heck is a possibility...

Inverter is marked V0210713104 A53 S127177 19.21064.001 Rev.1B , it has seven LEDs that indicate network, it's on, sleep mode, hdd, battery, caps lock and NumLk. All these LEDs seem to work fine during the blackouts.

Are we perhaps in search for a breaking electrolytic cap? :-(
I was hoping I wouldn't have to disassemble it completely...

Re: Acer Aspire 1360 backlight dies, resets by pulling the plug.

While going over all combinations again the backlight started acting up a lot, testing with other used stuff is of course a gamble but the spare CCFL seemed to work fine. When swapping back to the one in the screen it even flickered some, one side dominated at times.

So I decided to rip the LCD apart and replace the tube.

When finally reaching it beneath layers of tape, metal and screws I accidentally pulled the pink wire from the tube, wire looked all black...

So, after removing it completely (more tape glue) I just cleaned the wire and soldered it back on the tube, has been running fine for about half an hour now so I'll put it back together and hope that was it for now. Let the wife enjoy the freedom of the new battery. Perhaps I should re-solder the white wire as well - now that I have it all apart...

Burnt wires on CCFL are very common failure. I would check the white wire also.

Just got it back together, if I could only fix this keyboard as well it would be back to near perfect...

Ouch, those tubes looked really bad.

Not much burnt on my tube, I guess the new solder joint should hold for a few years more now, have to send that inverter back that I don't need anymore...

        Maybe a LED-strip isn't such a bad idea.

Still running fine, I consider the problem solved.

It's not very easy to get to the tube, I just cut the different kinds of tape and made a big effort trying to remember where the tree different kinds of screws went. I recommend keeping the bending to a minimum.
There's a folded piece of metal that covers the tube, inside that goes the big plastic sheet that spreads the light - it was tricky getting it back in there without disassembling the entire thing.

Perhaps it really IS easier to disassemble the entire LCD panel instead of trying to remove just the most necessary parts.

Recommend rubber gloves and a really clean space, you don't want to get smudges on any internal parts of the screen.

Vizio E55-E1 bad backlights or bad inverter?
            by x_orange90_x
I just got this tv today and it appeared to have no backlight on. After taking off the rear cover and checking again in the dark I can see that MAYBE one quadrant is lit.. But still it's quite dim. I was going to check the LEDs with my tester, and I found LED 1 and LED 2 + pins on the wire from the inverter, but I couldn't identify a ground. Nonetheless I tried using a mounting screw on the inverter board and also the chassis as ground but regardless my tester reads 300 which is what it reads when there is no voltage draw.

I don't know how exactly to test the inverter itself. Is it...

            APSINT3636VR 3600W APS INT Series 36V DC 230V AC Inverter/Charger schematic

I have a tripp-lite aspint 3636vr inverter charger which blow some of mosfet transistors. I replaced them repaired also the driver circuit and tested but the mosfets burn again.

It work very well as inverter and also as charger if I let the rear switch in auto mode (inverter) and charger only(charging) but in auto when I connect the feed line 220V AC first time it pass ok to line and start charging the batteries but when I remove the feed line it pass to inverter mode and if I do it again the second time when passing from charging to inverter the Main transformer start making a...

Insignia NS-LCD19-09 (PS OK, Inverter problem?)
            by valvashon
For some reason I'm just not going to let this 19" TV defeat me. I guess because I have a schematic to work from I feel like I'm oh so close.

History- while adding a turn-on circuit I let a small screw roll under the power board. Worked through all of that circuitry, probably replacing a MOSFET and PWM controller that were not bad but I was following the service manual. Finally figured out that the power supply is in working order when the inverter section (for the backlights) is disconnected. When the +12 supply to the inverter is disconnected the +12 and +5 will come up...

A modified sine wave inverter + a grid tie inverter?
            by eccerr0r
If I had a solar fed grid tie inverter (GTI), a modified sine wave inverter, and a power outage occurred, what would happen if you disconnected mains, backfed the modified sinewave inverter (MSI) into house power, and hooked up the GTI to the output of the MSI, would it work?

Next thing is trying to charge the batteries using solar power, but that's another issue ...

            Sony KDL-46BX450 Inverter Troubleshoot Logic
            by caseyjay_48
I am currently on a troubleshoot of 46” Sony KDL-46BX450 tv. I came back from Washington to Texas on medical emergency and had to leave all my tools up there. All I have is a couple of screwdrivers and a dvm. I wish to ask the community a troubleshooting question. Please forgive stupid questions as meds I am taking produce brain fog.
I have well maintained Sony KDL-46BX450. It went black one day. After turn-on, I get solid green light and Sony logo in screen center for about 1-2 seconds, then black. No blinking LEDs, no hissing. Flashlight test shows screen characters dimly viewable,...
