  • Re: Samsung 215tw display cuts out

I've had troubles with flickering light on my Samsung Syncmaster 215TW, stable image and so on, just a constant flicker of the light.

Googled, browsed forums and it seemed a cap replacement was a good solution to many problems. So I went in there and found that the caps were replaced already and looked fine, capacitance checked out as well as ESR and resistance - I decided to get the best ones I could regarding to the ESR anyway which was Rubycon ZLJ, better ESR values than the originals at least, not as good as those Panasonic FR...

  • Re: Acer Aspire 1360 backlight dies, resets by pulling the plug.

Still running fine, I consider the problem solved.

It's not very easy to get to the tube, I just cut the different kinds of tape and made a big effort trying to remember where the tree different kinds of screws went. I recommend keeping the bending to a minimum.
There's a folded piece of metal that covers the tube, inside that goes the big plastic sheet that spreads the light - it was tricky getting it back in there without disassembling the entire thing.

    Perhaps it really IS easier...

Just got it back together, if I could only fix this keyboard as well it would be back to near perfect...

Ouch, those tubes looked really bad.

Not much burnt on my tube, I guess the new solder joint should hold for a few years more now, have to send that inverter back that I don't need anymore...

    Maybe a LED-strip isn't such a bad idea.

While going over all combinations again the backlight started acting up a lot, testing with other used stuff is of course a gamble but the spare CCFL seemed to work fine. When swapping back to the one in the screen it even flickered some, one side dominated at times.

So I decided to rip the LCD apart and replace the tube.

When finally reaching it beneath layers of tape, metal and screws I accidentally pulled the pink wire from the tube, wire looked all black...

    So, after removing...

  • Re: New Members - please post your introductions here

Hello, I'm Fredric, 38 years old and an Electronics Engineer in Sweden. I work as a Service Engineer at a PCB manufacturer. Mostly repairing and replacing stuff, upgrading and trying to stay ahead of break downs.
Do the same on my spare time, like to tinker with busted or almost broken stuff and almost never give up. ;-)
This seems to be a nice place to be, found this forum when looking at a broken PSU in a PowerMac G5. Seems like that's in the works, just got to get the parts from DigiKey.

    Other than...

  • Acer Aspire 1360 backlight dies, resets by pulling the plug.

I have been trying to find the error with my wife's Acer Aspire 1360.
Laptop can be turned on for hours (sometimes just minutes) and then suddenly the backlight dies, screen still visible there in the darkness.

To solve the problem temporarily I can reseat the inverter plug from the motherboard, a 2x15 pin connector with black, red and green wires (very thin). Not all places are used in the connector, some are empty.

I bought another inverter, including the wire, that didn't solve the problem. I have tried hooking up a CCFL from another screen, same behavior....

  • Re: LiteOn PA-6601-1A (600w) blows its TOP

Thanks for helping me sorting out this broken PSU. We got another G5 the same day but it would be nice to fix the current one to have as backup.

I have read through the thread and found these parts at DigiKey, seems that's what's needed:

I finally found a blown U801 (TOP249y) and went through the vacuum cleaner bag trying to find the missing piece with the text on it - but it had fallen on the floor...
Also the Q856 was missing half the capsule...
