    A1466 MacOS Issue

    Hello,
This Macbook came in today where in the customer had forgotten the password, there is an issue with the keyboard with certain keys not working and the trackpad not working at all.

Swapped the trackpad and went into receovery. Erased the Disk and went ahead with the Reinstall MacOS option.

    But some issue cropped up.
    It got shut down once.
It showed some Untrust Cert error. Used the terminal to set the date.
and now its showing this error. (attached)

The board is clean with no corrosion. There was dust which i have cleaned.

        Re: A1466 MacOS Issue

Recovery tries to download whatever it came with. I don't think Apple offer Sierra anymore hence your error. If you've wiped the drive, then it should boot off a stick once you insert it (well it does that on recent firmware at least). If you have a sus keyboard, a PC keyboard via USB (ALT key should work for the bootpicker).

You don't mention what version of A1466 it is as this will limit what version of MAC OS it will support. 2012 is Catalina, 2013/14 Big Sur, 2015/17 Monterey. On another MAC (with recentish MACOS version), you can use the softwareupdate command via terminal to download the version of MACOS you need. Make sure you used the right trackpad too as the 2012 one is not compatible with 2013 etc.

        Examples:

        softwareupdate --list
        softwareupdate --fetchfullinstaller --full-installer-version 12.6.2

Then create your installer in the usual way with the createinstallmedia package.

          Edit, correct syntax is

          software update —fetch-full-installer —full-installer-version x.x.x

Replace x.x.x with Mac version from —list. 11.7.1 for Big Sur, 12.6.2 for Monterey

            The terminal thing didnt work.
My bootable disk is showing in Disk Utility but its not booting from the disk sadly. I tried with a different keyboard. Even tried using the option via Recovery Mode to change the Startup Disk. Didnt work.

              Re: A1466 MacOS Issue

That’s run from within MAC OS on another machine to download the installer to create your bootable USB. You can’t use it in recovery mode as the softwareupdate command is only in MAC OS. There no space in softwareupdate in my previous post (iPad auto inserted it).

If you cant get to the bootpicker with option key, then check startup security in recovery mode. If it has a password, maybe easiest to reflash u6100. Another possible option is use target disk mode from another Mac. I’ll have to try that and see if it works.

i've done several clean installations of windows 10 and 11 to try to resolve why the keyboard and trackpad only works in the bios setup. there are no errors in the device manager. since they work in the bios setup then can i assume that this is a software issue?

MacBook Air A1466 820-00165 Charging Issue
                by DominikPechac
                Hello everyone,

I have a problem identifying a problem on this MacBook Air A1466 with board 820-00165.
A customer came in with a problem, the laptop was not charging. Otherwise, it works fine - runs from a battery without an issue. The battery is original, the customer also provided his original charger.

However, when I was diagnosing the issue, I turned the laptop off, checked the board, etc. When I put everything back together, the laptop was charging (I inserted the charger and then turned the laptop on). After unplugging the charger and plugging it back,...

                Apple A1466 power on issue
                by Jacksoft
                Hi all,
                I have a MacBook A1466 with 820-00165-A with a strange issue.
The Mac power on and runs perfectly, AST in EFI mode passes all the tests (even the full longer test), but if you leave the Mac off, and without the power adapter connected, for about two days without powering it on and using it, it will not power on anymore (battery have enough charge).
Already did an SMC reset but the issue still persist.

                What could I check?

                Thank you.

Macbook AIr a1466 Trackpad jittery/nonresponsive in macos, but not in recovery mode.
                by redbaron1007
I've got a MacBook Air A1466 that had liquid damage that I got working entirely except for the trackpad. The track pad is jittery or outright unresponsive when it is in macos, but works perfectly fine in recovery mode. The keyboard works and there are no issues with any of the keys not pressing. I have also replaced the track pad with 2 known good track pads and still am having issues with it.

I can't find anything wrong on the board with any of the IC's that would be in circuit with the track pad and am assuming it's some sort of os issue, but I don't know how macOS actually works...
