ASROCK P4i65gV Prescott 800 Not booting

Hi all I have the above noted motherboard stated in the title thread. I replaced the two obvious blown caps on this thing and it still won't POST. I should add it says Dual Channel DDR 400 on it.

I also realized the pattern on the MOBO seems to be backwards. None of the caps were installed "correctly" ie the white negative strip on the caps with the white marking on the board where the caps should be.

The board doesn't shut off at all, the CPU chip seems to be getting voltage because it's warm after I take the fan off.

I tested all the other caps with the ESR meter all seem to be ok.. am I missing something or is it possible something else is kaput on this board? I've tried different CPU chips and RAM. The onboard and AGP and PCI video don't work either.

    Any ideas?? Thanks!

does it give you a beep code? (if you have a speaker connected)

Good suggestion I'll grab a spare one from my shop and get back to you.

Replace all OST caps. Some of them may have failed without bulging yet.
failure is not an option. it is a chance to success.

The board could've be burnt up by crappy generic PSU at worse? Symptoms include no booting and no beeping. The way you can tell this is a very hot southbridge because it is shorted due to a power spike.

            Hello all!

I to have the aforementioned mobo and am having the same problem.

Would the fix be to replace the caps the right way around and with a better cap?

And, what happens to a cap that is used in reverse polarity?

Solder Boy, did you fix your mobo?

a reverse cap will bulge and fail within an hour of use. usually a lot quicker. best way to tell is to use a dmm to check voltage/polarity.

I just double checked the P4i65GV that I'm recapping. The silk screen is misleading, the original caps are installed properly on this board, the filled in side of silk screen is positive. I verified using my DMM to ohm from the ground pins on the main PSU connector to where the original cap negatives are connected; the capacitor can is not connected so you have to measure at the actual solder connection on the board.

I will post pictures of my recap and how to verify the polarity in the thread I started about this board here.

Nowadays, I take some pictures of the caps before I pull them out to recap.

Besides, when something go wrong, I have pictures to post here.

Asus and ASRock mobo use the same capacitor silk screen.
