Re: AL196W Acer Monitor- Slightly Different Issue
Thanks for the lead on Ebay for this fuse.. next stock order I do, will see if Digikey has them.
Thanks for all your help with this monitor.. what the heck I will order the mosfets as well and see what happens. Might be a while before I report back.. have other obligations before I do this but will keep you posted.

Re: AL196W Acer Monitor- Slightly Different Issue
I set it aside because I don't have the experience nor the right equipment to deal with SMD parts. Considering the prices of used LCD's have been dropping hard to justify the expense in a hot air station etc.
I did try Googling smd fuse marking.. found everything but W

Re: AL196W Acer Monitor- Slightly Different Issue
I hear you on the mosfets, those I'm sure I can source out but the little W fuse is another story. I have no idea what value it is or even the foggiest idea where I would get it from.
If anyone has knowledge in that dept please let me know ...

Interesting Find Today Inside An Acer LCD.
Well I opened the next Acer 19" LCD in line and was quite startled to see this botched attempt at fixing this. I immediately checked the SMD fuses underneath and sure enough one of the W fuses was open so I wasn't going to waste much time with it
Found an obvious cold solder joint underneath from the attempted cap repair....

Another AL196W Acer Monitor Repaired Sort Of
This is another AL196W Monitor I looked at this morning.. found one bad cap in the power supply and found an iffy cap on the video board so it got replaced.
Anyway machine came back to life, has a picture all the functions work just that on a white page I can see sort of like a robins egg blue colour and some vertical lines
Is this a sign of further bad caps on the video board or a sign the LCD panel itself is fubared?
Edit.. this unit has been running on my bench since I fixed it.. had a short nap.. went and checked on it now it seems to be normal.....Last edited by Solder Boy; 08-15-2012, 11:00 AM.

Re: AL196W Acer Monitor- Slightly Different Issue
Well it was a learning experience that is for sure, after thoroughly testing the PS board with the help from this forum.. I think it might be a case of not worth fixing.
I'll certainly be a bit more thorough with my diagnostics in the future before I go ordering caps assuming that alone will solve the problem.

Re: AL196W Acer Monitor- Slightly Different Issue
I retested the SMD fuses again this morning.. I did find one of the W fuses that read open.
Tried taking a close up of the W fuse in question turned out blurry. If I can get a clear closeup I will post a pic.Re: AL196W Acer Monitor- Slightly Different Issue

Re: AL196W Acer Monitor- Slightly Different Issue
Thanks for the additional input selldoor, will do the additional measurements tomorrow.
Regarding the transformers I did peel off the silicone, will use a different meter.. the one I used didn't have a selector switch.
As I said earlier.. little rusty doing this.. hadn't done much service work lately.

Re: AL196W Acer Monitor- Slightly Different Issue
I've had a chance to do some measurements:
The N fuse reads normal
The W fuses all read normal as well.
On the transformer it read open on both measuring points as indicated in the edited photo.
The 2 MOSFETS near the transformer both read that they were shorted ( not sure if I tested them right though)
Last time I tried to get a replacement transformer from Delta, they told me I was out of luck.Last edited by Solder Boy; 08-14-2012, 02:10 PM.

AL196W Acer Monitor- Slightly Different Issue
Hello all before getting into this I did take a look at the AL196W thread that already exists but I didn't quite see anything that resembles the issue I have with the one I am trying to fix ( Either that or I am blind lol)
Briefly C204 is a new cap, and the cap beside C103 is also a new one.
After I replaced these caps and turned it on, all I got was a very brief flicker and that was it. I have a set of working CCFL's as testers, I plugged them in and they didn't even fire. However the green/orange power light was on.
The main filter cap is missing...

Re: Metro LCD with crispy cap.. 2 sec to black issue
Normally I would agree with you however this is really an oddball of a LCD monitor.. it's a Metro and the PS board inside is pretty well propietary to this thing.. it's got oddball CCFL connectors.
I will likely gut it and put the working parts in static bags and keep them in stock for future reference....

Re: Metro LCD with crispy cap.. 2 sec to black issue
Hi Bill.. well I got the 2 second to black issue solved.. I found an identical blue cap on another board. However I think the effort turned out to be a partial waste.
Fired it up and got these two white lines on the screen with a bit of black in the lower corner.
Took it apart again.. found 2 caps on the video board that were really bad so I replaced them.. fired it up same result.
Bad screen now?...

Metro LCD with crispy cap.. 2 sec to black issue
Hello all.. this is an offbrand LCD monitor made by Metro. Original symptom is 2sec to black issue. You can see the WIndows XP screen no problem before it goes away.
Opened it up and I could smell something burnt.. this is a first for me! One of the little blue capacitors had burnt to a crisp. It's neighbour is a 12J 3KV capacitor.
Looking for input here.. what would cause this cap to go poof? Bad transformer or bad CCFL? I probably have a replacement somewhere in my pile of boards.
Thanks!...

Re: Prive 32" LCD TV Red Blinking Light
Thanks for the info. Couldn't wait for any more feedback here so I ended up bringing the board to another technician where I live who has more experience than me.
After a few tests.. he confirmed the board was faulty.. so I guess the customer is sending it back for RMA.
