Syntax s478 mobo random freezups - caps maybe?

Hey I have a Syntax socket 478 board with a celeron 2.5GHz in it that randomly will freeze up. It'll run fine for days or weeks (currently been on for a week and a half with no lockups) then have a fit of lockups, then randomly be fine again for an unspecified amount of time before having a fit again. Sometimes it just freezes up once then is OK for the next week. All very random.

I've stress tested the CPU and RAM, changed PSUs, data cables, and HDs, and reloaded the OS. It still does it. All the caps look fine - no bulging or leaking - but I'm suspecting that they are not right.

It isn't in an easy to get to spot right now but if I get a change I'll get the system out of its little hole and find out the make of the caps.

Intermittent problems are very difficult. You are on the right track, check the cap brands.

If you can use a program for monitoring motherboard voltages. Such as Speedfan/MBProbe/MotherboardMonitor. It theres much fluctuation when idle it could be hardware related.

Heat and cold boots can cause lockups too & sudden rises or falls in temperature (i.e +-10oC/h)

try getting the latest bios and flashing it.
a pic is still worth a thousand words.
time to pull it out for all to see.never seen a syntax board.

I am running the latest BIOS right now. I'm going to get into it this afternoon or evening to check the caps on it. After the weekend I'll have my camera with me hopefully and I'll snap some pics.

Please do pull the board to get some good close-ups.
You could offer us some proper pics, as well as give it a real cleaning / inspection.

Love your sig, we fought for over a year at Anand's.

Haha yeah we did have our little disputes I just wish that I hadn't learned the hard way

Anyway, I can't take pics of this board right now since I don't have my camera with me, but here is a list of the caps on the board.
              7x OST 3300uF 6.3V
              6x OST 1000uF 6.3V
              2x G-Luxon 1500uF 6.3V
              4x G-Luxon 100uF 16V (2 are half-height)
              1x G-Luxon 470uF 16V
              5x G-Luxon 22uF 25V

None look bad, they are all sitting flat on the board and have flat tops.

I'll post some pics after this weekend once I have my camera with me.

Maybe a component is suffering from heat. Could also be some loose capacitors or other parts not making reliable contact anymore. If you already have the parts I'd probably go ahead and try replacing the caps, regardless of how they look.

I thought maybe heat, but it has done it when just turned on and nothing had a chance to get hot yet. I didn't see any dry joints on the board.

I think I have some more of those OST caps in a bag somewhere, I may just replace crap with crap and see if that fixes it

what i went through dealing with my mobo with dead onboard sound!
                    by ChaosLegionnaire
so i took out one of my spare gigabyte ep35-ds3r mobos from storage for use to do some cpu, ram and video card testing of stuff i bought from ebay and got for free from momaka. he bought 50 e8400 cpus for cheap from ebay some years ago and i decided to help him relieve him of some of his supply since he had waaaay too many!! what did we say about hoarding too much stuff and depriving others of them?! *cough* socialism *cough* lol!

i had to blow some dust off the board and heatsinks with the datavac as i didnt clean it up before putting it in storage. after finishing...

Mobo MSI B550-A PRO password popup
                    by Cerberuska
                    Hello guys,
I have interesting problem. My MoBo MSI running on Ryzen 7 w/o graphics just good. I swapped to Ryzen 5 5600G and on the boot I stuck with screen on picture. Enter Password. I checked BIOS setting with Ryzen 7, no security is enabled, BIOS password or TPM.
BIOS I updated to last one.
                    any suggestions?
And same thing for two different 5600G, and yes, MoBo supposed to support it.
                    Thank you...

Asus B85M-GAMER no hdmi output and random restarts
                    by Prosatanosz
                    Hi!

Asus B85M-GAMER absolute no hdmi output (not at start, not at Windows), and random restarts. Everything work, except hdmi and random restarts after 0.1-3 min. Restarts even in bios. On VGA Windows boots up fast, games and apps starts ok. Mem, psu, cpu changed, no luck. I need shematic, because i think the restarts caused by the hdmi failure.

Dell G3 17 3779 - no display after mobo replacement
                    by mrsith
                    Hi guys,

I have a friend's Dell 3779 that came to me with severely shorted mobo. Did not manage to isolate the cause, most likely that was a bga shorted. Went for a replacement motherboard. Got one from China, apparently it's been tested prior to shipping. The mobo starts up normally but I am getting no display whatsoever.

Tried using external monitor, but being blind I am not sure if laptops goes as far as booting to Windows, a d without it I cannot get hdmi to work. Can't see boot menu options to make sure it boots to Windows. Went ahead and did a blind bios update,...

Asus TUF Gaming FX506LX laptop just stuck at random time
                    by Dreigas
                    Hi everyone,

I've got a problem with my Asus TUF Gaming FX506LX laptop. I bought it as a non-working unit it had been completely drenched in a sweet alcoholic drink and was left for a year... When I got it, the motherboard wasn't in terrible shape, but I had to clean a lot of areas—about 1/5 of the motherboard. There was some corrosion, but I managed to clean it up and re-soldered where I saw issues under a microscope.

One of the two primary MOSFETs was fried (PQ33 fried and PQ34 were fine), so while I was waiting for a replacement, I desoldered it and created a short....
