    Sceptre X20WG-1080P not turning on

When the power button is pressed, the power light will come on for about 2-3 seconds, then I hear a little audio pop and power goes off. Then, every 7 seconds or so, the power light will flash and I hear the audio pop again. Opened up the case and noticed I have one capacitor that is bulging. Could this be the issue? Any assistance for a rookie?

    Thanks,
    Mark

<Cue the recording> Yes, that could be the problem. If one capacitor is visibly bad it is likely more are bad. It is recommended you replace ALL the capacitors except the very large one (typically 100 uF, 450 Volts). I recommend attaching pictures (top and bottom) of the power supply / inverter board. I personally recommend buying Panasonic FM series caps from Digikey, and taking advantage of their USPS First Class Mail shipping. If you are unsure of which caps to use, post a list, including Manufacturer, Series, Capacity, Voltage, diameter, and length for each cap and someone will reply with a list of recommended replacements. <End of recording>

I have attached pics of the top and bottom of the board, as well as a close-up of the suspect cap.

Here are specs as seen on the cap, and measurements as close as I can on each of the 12 caps, less the big one:

      #1 - 470uf, 25V, 105ºC, CD268, Dia - 5/16", Height - 9/16"
      #2 - 470uf, 25V, 105ºC, CD268, Dia - 5/16", Height - 11/16"

Reordering your list, we get a much more manageable list.

9 ea - 470uf, 25V, P12388-ND EEU-FM1E471 Double check the diameter, you may have to go with P10274-ND EEU-FC1E471L for the three in the audio amp section.

        #5 - 100uf, 16V, 493-1779-ND UPW1C101MED

        #8 - 10uf, 50V, P10316-ND EEUFC1H100L

Diameters of all the 470uf are the same, just a few different heights. Am I to assume those over the 9/16" are also crapping out, thus the difference in height?

Two other follow-up questions: The audio amp caps (I assume) are the three in a vertical row right above the audio connections on the board? I am assuming all those are Digikey part #'s? Please correct if needed.

Thanks for the quick response - it's only taken me about 8 months to work up the courage to open this pig. Will be nice to have it fixed in a week;-)

I've never seen that logo on a cap. But there are a LOT of bad cap brands out there. The rule of thumb is if one cap in a given application fails, replace all from the same manufacturer. I believe the most expensive caps on that list are about $.50. You may have different standards, but I'd rather spend an extra $3.00 today than have to tear the monitor apart again in six months to replace half a dozen more.

Yes, Digikey part numbers, the three caps in a row are in the audio section.

Took some doing, but I managed it. The frame around the screen pops off if you use the right force. If I recall, you need a few flat head screwdrivers and a little patience. I think I ended up breaking one tab in getting it off. The good thing is that it's facing away from the monitor so no one sees it. And the tab is inside ;-)

Wish I could offer you more than that, but it's been a few months and I didn't write down the steps, nor did I take pics. Once you get the frame off, it's pretty easy. Good luck.

i just got into it a few minutes ago. once you get the front frame off, you separate the screen from the sides. you turn it over and remove two stickers from either side of the base where it attaches to the back. someone said to always check under the stickers for screws. there was three on each side.

one more question how do i order replace parts for it?

It depends -- what's wrong with the monitor? Have you already diagnosed the problem and found what you need to replace? If so, list the parts and I'm sure someone will be able to suggest compatible parts. If not, post the issue (and good pics of the top/bottom of the power, inverter and mainboards) and someone can talk you through the appropriate troubleshooting steps.

Glad to see you are in good hands. One important criteria for ordering parts is location. There are excellent (or at least adequate) parts suppliers in most countries. But a supplier in the USA isn't much help for someone living in, for example, Australia.

Your profile doesn't indicate where you live. If you live in the USA I suggest Digi-key (www.digikey.com). Choose the USPS First Class Mail shipping option and save yourself some time and $$$.

If you live elsewhere, indicate which country you are in and someone may indicate a source. There is also a thread 'Where should I buy caps' in the FAQ that may help.

                                        hi again
                                        its cecil61443 here.
boy do i have problems. first i did something stupid, i just look at the pictures posted above and saw what i wanted to see. it is the same pc board but, i didn't really check the caps out that closely, or just plain miss read them. i guess i was just to lazy to do it right. so i ordered the parts from the list from above and very little matched. here is my list of caps that my monitor needs:
                                        1; capxon 1000uf 16v, KF105`c, c719, vent, dia. 7/16 x 7/8 length
