• Re: LG LCD power supply

C202 and C208 look physically damaged to me, but others with better eyes may be able to tell for sure. Remember what vinceroger said though, it doesn't have to "look" bad for it to actually be bad. Unfortunately you'd need access to some test equipment to tell for sure. Since you're already replacing at least C202 and C208 (maybe more), you may as well replace them all while you're in there.

The Samxon GK and GF series are common value low ESR, so these will be readily available. Personally, I'd ask for replacements in this order...

Nice list -- please add the make and series of each (for example: Samxon KM), since that will give us the characteristics of the cap which will help determine the replacements to use. The two large ones are likely good so don't worry about those.

Soldering iron: Personal preferences, but I'd recommend 40W minimum (65W better) with a 1.6 or 2.4 chisel tip. You'll also probably need a stand and something to clean the tip (such as a sponge).

  • Re: LG LCD power supply

I will second Selldoor's advice: Open it up, take a look at the board itself because even though it has the same part number it could be completely different. Then make a list of all capacitors, keeping track of location, size (diameter/height), value, make and series. Post that list here, and people can make suggestions on what you can order that will be equivalent (or better). The only issue you may run into at this stage is not being able to identify it without removing it from the board (due to orientation, the markings may not be visible/readable). Still,...

  • Re: Apevia WIN-500XSPX recap

lol, I used this power supply as practice since it had been a long time with an iron in my hands. After reading the input here, I decided it wasn't worth the risk to actually use it. Ironically, I ended up putting a CX430 (recapped) in the HTPC and it's been running 24/7 for the last several years.

Anyway, from my notes, here's what was in the Apevia at the time of replacing in case it helps someone:

    C103 Su'scon SL 470uF 200V 22x40 (47 max height)
    C104 Su'scon SL 470uF 200V 22x40

Get the Ruby replacements from here (BCN). You don't specify a size (diameter/height) for the 220uf, or even where on the motherboard these caps are located (pics would help), so its difficult to recommend.Re: Dell Dimension 9200C Re-cap advice needed

  • Re: Samsung 2494 SW powering off. Bad caps?

Could very well be bad caps. The replacements should be matched against what you currently have, so the next step should be to open up the monitor and make a list of what's in there (values, make, series and dimensions). Post the list, then folks can chime in on suitable replacements. Since you're in the US, typically people will recommend Panasonic FC/FM for power supplies. You could always check badcaps.net stock, though those are geared more towards motherboards and some values may not be available.

  • Re: Sony KDL-46EX402 firmware and restarting problem

The same boards are frequently used in different size models, or even across multiple vendors, so as long as the part number matches it should be OK. There are a few that match this part number on eBay and shopjimmy.com:

  • Re: Sony KDL-46EX402 firmware and restarting problem

Since you were able to get a replacement power supply, would it be possible to get a replacement mainboard? The issue almost certainly lies there, as you have already figured out. I took a quick look at eBay but didn't have any luck.

A thought on the USB firmware: It sounds like you are plugging it in after the TV has powered on. Have you tried plugging the USB device in first (while the TV is off) and then starting up the TV? Also, once the TV is on it is impossible to put it in standby mode (power off via remote)?...

Your description of the issue is fine, so I'm guessing no one has an answer for you unfortunately. If I understand what you've done so far:

    1. When you say it won't load the firmware now, do you get an error message, or does it not see the updated firmware image on the USB device?

    2. You replaced the power board, and everything was still the same (could not update firmware, and the TV is still turning on and off)?

Have you tried to get into the service menu and/or performing a reset...

Either of the Canons should have a macro mode (icon looks like a flower with two leaves). That will allow close-up focus.

Excellent! Then you are already aware that the more detailed information you provide, as well as quality of pictures, the more help you will get. While you are gathering that information, if you could answer what I've asked someone can point you in the right direction in the meantime.

  • Re: Vizio tv black screen & amber light

With all due respect, you'll need to provide more info and better pictures if you want to receive additional help. Once the TV is on, does the remote still work (in particular, can you turn it off without unplugging it)? Can you change inputs? Can you use a flashlight and see any faint images? Have you searched the other threads in this forum for common Vizio problems?

  • Re: Can I Connect wireless router to wireless modem

DHCP should be off on the Belkin, since the DSL modem/router will assign IP addresses. You know, after re-reading the instructions, it sounds like in order to use the Belkin in Access Point mode, you need to wire it directly to the DSL modem (first paragraph). Of course, this isn't what you want. Anyway, the IP address for the Belkin should be on the same subnet (first three numbers should match), then the fourth should be unique to the network. The DSL modem/router is probably taking .1, so you can probably use .2 for the Belkin....

  • Re: Can I Connect wireless router to wireless modem

Correct -- bridge mode is only for the local ports. However, good news! According to Belkin's documentation, all of their routers can be used in AP mode:

    Link to setup procedure.

Hopefully this does what you want! The only hiccup I see is the SpeedStream only supports 802.11g, so you'll be limited to 54Mbps speeds on the 2.4GHz band. You might be prone to interference...

  • Re: Can I Connect wireless router to wireless modem

Need more info, like specific model numbers so we can check the features of each device. From the info you've provided, a basic wireless router probably does not have a repeating function to extend the network (hotspot/access point), but can likely be put into bridge mode. All that does is connect back to your DSL modem via WiFi and provide internet access through the local ports. This is OK if you have devices close together (TV, HTPC, Xbox/PS3, etc.), but if they are in several different rooms you'll need to get some kind of...
