  • Compaq FP7317 no power - caps?

This morning my monitor would not power on - have been noticing some "ripple" in the screen quality recently. Opened up the back and see at least 4 caps bulging or burst. I'm assuming that will cause the no power situation if they are located by the transformer?

The 4 suspect caps are all Elite 1000uf 16v with ES(M)105C and (C)0408 listed on the other side. What is a good replacement number from Digikey that I can order?

I did a cap replacement on a Sceptre monitor successfully, so I know I can do the work if this is the problem...

    Thanks...

Took some doing, but I managed it. The frame around the screen pops off if you use the right force. If I recall, you need a few flat head screwdrivers and a little patience. I think I ended up breaking one tab in getting it off. The good thing is that it's facing away from the monitor so no one sees it. And the tab is inside ;-)

Wish I could offer you more than that, but it's been a few months and I didn't write down the steps, nor did I take pics. Once you get the frame off, it's pretty easy. Good luck....

SUCCESS!! Got the new caps today, soldered them in, fired right up. Thanks for your assistance. Always good to hear "I knew you could do it!" from the wife AFTER I got it done

HA! I appreciate your self-deprecating style. Nice to take yourself only so seriously...

Diameters of all the 470uf are the same, just a few different heights. Am I to assume those over the 9/16" are also crapping out, thus the difference in height?

Two other follow-up questions: The audio amp caps (I assume) are the three in a vertical row right above the audio connections on the board? I am assuming all those are Digikey part #'s? Please correct if needed.

    Thanks...

Sounds like you've answered this question before

I have attached pics of the top and bottom of the board, as well as a close-up of the suspect cap.

Here are specs as seen on the cap, and measurements as close as I can on each of the 12 caps, less the big one:

    #1 - 470uf, 25V, 105ºC, CD268, Dia - 5/16", Height - 9/16"
    #2 - 470uf, 25V, 105ºC, CD268, Dia - 5/16", Height - 11/16"
    #3 - 470uf, 25V, 105ºC, CD268, Dia - 5/16", Height - 9/16"...

When the power button is pressed, the power light will come on for about 2-3 seconds, then I hear a little audio pop and power goes off. Then, every 7 seconds or so, the power light will flash and I hear the audio pop again. Opened up the case and noticed I have one capacitor that is bulging. Could this be the issue? Any assistance for a rookie?

    Thanks,
    Mark
