Okay, after a power surge monitor doesn't work. It looks as though some capacitors have been blown. Here are pictures of the power board. It looks as though L1, L2, and maybe L103 and L102 are messed up. How do I know which type of capacitors I need and where do I buy them from?

Re: Sceptre X9G-Komodo II
I don't see anything that looks like damage or out of place.
Which components are these "L1, L2, and maybe L103 and L102 "?
Check the fuse (F1) for continuity. White cylinder with metal caps wired to board in pics 2 & 3.
What kind of surge? Power company voltage spike or lightning strike type?
No surge protector on the monitor power line?veritas odium parit

Re: Sceptre X9G-Komodo II
Okay. So the black things are inductors and it's okay if they're crooked? The black one's in both pictures are L1, L2, L102, and L103. There's a brown discoloration on the board around the inductors in the 1st picture which you can see in the overview. It was a power outage so when the lights came back on it didn't work. There was a surge protector on it.

Do you have an ohmmeter? Do you know how to use it? As a first step, I'd check the fuses. Also, what EXACTLY are the symptoms? Absolutely no response? Green power button but no display?

Was this ever resolved spklav97?There are 10 kind of people in this world: those that understand binary, and those who don't.- ASUS ROG Maximus IX Code

Re: Sceptre X9G-Komodo II
Same monitor, symptom is as follows:
Powers up, windows recognizes, acts completely normally other than display only flashes for a frame (split second) then to black. Nothing else changes.
I could see nothing visibly wrong on the inverter board. No singe marks, bulging caps, or fluid. The only thing that appeared to be inconsistent, are a couple of inductors (which took me a bit to identify). There are 4 (of this particular type). L1 and L2 appear uniform in shape, and insulation cut. L2 has a bit of a brown fluid dried on top (adhesive for the insulation maybe?), then L102 and L103 (behind the heat sink) both look inconsistent with the other two. L102 appears to have had the insulation cut long, and L103 cut short with the most of that dried brown fluid on top.
I replaced all the caps listed in this pack: http://lcdalternatives.com/Repair-Ki...-P1660433.aspx, and still getting the same symptom.
I tested the inductors as per instructions found via google search with an ohm meter, which said they should read between 2 and 10 ohms, and every inductor I have tested reads 0 ohms. I even removed a few to make sure to get a clean reading, and did it with two different meters and all read 0 resistance.
The problem is even if I deduced it was the inductors (which I know is not likely) they aren't even really marked with any kind of rating, so I wouldn't know what to replace them with.
Anyone have anything ideas that might resurrect this monitor?

Re: Sceptre X9G-Komodo II
You need to take the resistance reading of the High Voltage winding of the Inverter transformers. Do you have good clear pictures of your board (both sides of the board)?Last edited by budm; 08-28-2013, 08:16 PM.Never stop learning

Re: Sceptre X9G-Komodo II
I have the Sceptre X7G Komodo II, was acting intermittent, sometimes would turn on (after playing with it, power cycling, pushing on/off switch, etc), but other times playing with it didn't work (I usually gave up after 5 minutes of fiddling). Anyway, after reading posts here I opened her up and noticed one domed 330uF/16V cap and the big 100uF/400V cap was leaking his guts out the + pin (you can see both in the attached photo). Replaced the 300uF (and four others for good measure, 2 x 1200uF/10V and 2 x 470uF/25V), but that didn't solve the problem, still only worked intermittently. Finally got the big 100uF/400V cap today and soldered it in and now monitor seems to be working, powered up the first time. BTW, also found 3 domed 470uF/16V caps on the video board which I also replaced. So hopefully this problem is resolved, now if I could just figure out why the power LED isn't working, not a critical problem, just kind of annoying...Last edited by Pilm2013; 11-04-2013, 07:16 PM.
