I just stumbled upon this thread and my Iiyama E431S is experiencing the same problems described here by the OP. It turns on briefly for a second and then goes blank. The blue light on the power button remains on.

I have opened up my monitor to inspect the board inside.

My Prolite does not have the same board that everyone else has and I am unable to see any of the same capacitors that could have gone bad.

Is anyone able to help and advice? I am wondering why the inside of my monitor is different to everyone else and if you are able to help me troubleshoot to know what the issue is?

I will try and share a link to a photo I took. I am not sure how to do photos on this site and photobucket no longer works for me so I have tried to add the photo to my google photos sections.

Thanks everybody. I used this thread to repair an E431S.

What was wrong : the screen goes blank after a couple of seconds and works again if you push the auto button then goes blank again, and so on.

I had some old PC motherboards, I was lucky to find 4 x 1000uF 16V on one and 2 x 470uF 16V on another.
The most difficult part was the desoldering of the caps on the motherboads as they are multilayers and my old Weller isn't very powerfull. Once done (I broke one pin on a 1000uF, but I don't care as I had enough), I replace the caps in my E431S.
I also checked the 4 x C5706 and the TP solders. But all seems good.
Note : I had no voltage drop (in diode mode) with B+E then E+B measures.
Then, the E431S is now working fine.

At first I was thinking at a bad stability with video sync signals, then I found this forum ...

Before you do that you could check the secondary windings on the
inverter transformers. If you cant find them post a picture of the bottom of the power supply and we will help you locate.

What I do when I rework the solder joints, I ADDED the 60/40 solder and flux to the joints and then remove the solder and re-apply the solder.

Oh well, did a great job with the aid of a magnifying glass - but alas has made no difference, so presume there must be a cap or similar gone somewhere so it looks like a visit to the man as recommended by the chap in Maplins.........any more than £20 quid and it's off to the tip i guess.......sad.

Good News look to be fixed !!!!!

I found a crappy soldering point on the big indutance ( self ?) close from the caps C922, resolder an now screen stay on ... lets see if it's definitely fixed !

the cheapest fix ... thanks for this thread who help me to do it myself !

Hi all,
like a lot of people i have a problem with my flat panel : blue led image ok and off after 2 or 3 sec. i have read the different post and check the different issues. my caps look to be no visual default
tested alone after unsolder voltage slowly up until the limit -> OK

I have checked the transistors alone seem to be ok ( diode working 0.7v ) but after re soldering i have checked again for short and i see a difference between 2 of them ( one the same sub schematics )
when i check resistance between C and E 2 of them give me "infinite" and 2 others 100 ohms. Can you confirm that the transistor are dead ? and it's not because i check directly on the board ? I will unsold them tomorrow to confirm the test.

You can probably get both at maplins if there is one near.

Sounds like leave it til tomorrow as i have neither but i do have a Maplins in Pompey! Perhaps the Dremmil should stay in the box for another day.

Hi - You could use a solder sucker or Solder mop /Braid /Wick.
0r even both - its a personal preference thing. You can probably get both at maplins if there is one near.

I presume i would need a solder sucker for such a task? - I remember an electronic pal using one of them years ago - is that what i need, or is there trick method such as getting the first new solder back onto a secondary piece of wire?

Thanks team, if nothing else is wrong then it is no surprise that the solder joint, or should i say - lack of solder has let down the viability of my screen! So, as that pin and "ex" solder look so oxidized and grubby, i can only think that very careful cleaning with my Dremmil mini wire brush with the aid of my magnifying glass will do the job, before a fresh hit with the 60/40.

Fingers crossed - will report back later.

Cheers for your opinions guys. I guess the message is, carefully clean around the pin and re-solder. When i first saw the damage and all that is written on here, re bad caps and resistors, i had wondered if it were likely that the overheating had been caused by another component further down the line. As it is, other than the obvious problem on the transformer pin there is nothing else obviously wrong.

So will give it a go and report back.

You can also see the crack ring forming on the pins to the right and the left, I have seen this problem when the profiles and the temperature of the wvae soldering machine is not properly set, we used to have wave soldering machine that I have to set up evry morning to get it to sodler properly, it can take hours to get right. Once the poor connection started, the heat and the resistance will cause it to get worst, you can see heated area at that bad pin also.

Morning Guys,

Finally having got my monitor apart i find absolutely no sign whatsoever of capacitor degradation or any cooked transistors - However one of the contacts to transformer PT202 seems a tad cooked and on close inspection there is next to no solder on the printed side of the board presumably it has been cooked away.

Any ideas or help much appreciated

Hi Everyone, I'm sure i will soon enough find the official intro page but in the mean time can someone tell me how the heck i get the bottom screen screw out of the E431s? I dare say that i need to remove the bottom hinged stand but try as i might i never was much good at Rubik cubes so I'm stumped for the moment.

Perhaps someone could enlighten me before my 9 year old gets home from school and makes a mug outa me!.....Again.
